"Any indication of flagging will in the United States gives encouragement to those folks," Gates told reporters at the Pentagon. "I'm sure that that's not the intent behind the resolutions, but I think it may be the effect."

This kind of statement always throws me into a rage for one very simple reason. The BUSH ADMINISTRATION has made clear from March 2003 to now that it has NO FUCKING WILL will to attend to and complete ANY task in Iraq with ANY competency, focus or energy. These or any other resolutions Congress has to offer cannot communicate "flagging will" ONE THOUSANDTH as well as the Bushists' entire approach to Iraq has already communicated.

These Bushists have no shame, no sense, no decency, and NO FUCKING WILL.

1. "These Bushists have no shame, no sense, no decency, and NO FUCKING WILL." You said it!
Thanks for so skillfully articulating your rage -- my rage, too.

4. I sometimes want to articulate it in their faces, or in the ears at high decibels.

2. Vietnam, post WWI Germany
The way a war ends is important. That is the ONLY point in responding to Gates. tThe longer the sophistry and denial, the more chance a bitter solution will come leaving a spiteful group or revivalist hawks throwing up the game table and blaming the peaceniks who "lost the war".

Take Gates' point to heart. It merely goes to the WAY one ends the war and not letting the petulant imperialists retreat to their lairs of mad self-justification, hoping and then planning for the justification by disaster. Then the return as a worse, more efficient beast than last time.

We have had many leaders gulled into continuing bad actions, Kennedy for the bay of Pigs, LBJ listening to the soldiers to fight on. Bad advice does not argue for a bad war. Take the point historically and work with it. This is as much a threat from the imperilaist, dark world hawks, as from any untreated ME cancer.

In the end it is an argument for a stronger, less militaristic, peace.

3. Insufficient committment to the cause
emboldens the enemy. Hitler said that, too.

Many, many parallels to the Reich. But I don't have to tell those, here, who are paying attention.
