1. Dismissed
The officials they were trying to sue were found to be protected as government employees acting within the scope of their jobs.

3. They WERE really naughty,
but if it is deemed by the court to be within the scope of their official duties, it's protected.

The law seems to suck, but, in fact, it's an absolute necessity. Our governments - Federal, state, local - would grind to a halt if individuals were allowed to sue the workers. In this case, it does seem like Rove and company walked, but it was always an uphill battle, as any lawyer should have told them.

Given the penchant Plame and her husband turned out to have for publicity, I suspect they filed the suit more for attention than anything else.............

5. As I read in her book, Joe's consulting business was destroyed by the Bush admin. people.
That's one of the reasons they had to sell their house and move to New Mexico. I was furious and crying when I finished reading Plame's book about this whole experience.

I hope they are feeling well and comfortable in New Mexico. No one deserves what they got...

13. Are you unaware that the Plame-Wilsons were the victims in this crime?
They were actually serving their government at the time their government took them down. And you don't think they have a right to earn a living?

Amazing.

12. Not to worry ...........
Poor people don't live in the Palisades neighborhood of DC or the affluent suburb of McLean, VA, and poor people don't move to Santa Fe. Joe Wilson's family is old California money, so he's all right financially. And he's still doing lucrative speaking gigs.

As the torture business breaks, I expect Wilson and Plame will be getting more bookings. I hope so .........................

7. No, it's an essential part of
our system of jurisprudence. As I stated, government employees have to be free to do their jobs. Occasionally they are going to do things beyond the pale - as in the Plame case - but then it's a matter of prioritizing. Not pretty, but politically sane and politics, after all, is the art of the possible.

The Wilsons could have gone after other people, but they chose not to, and, in doing so, lost the chance when the statute of limitations ran out. So, they just have to live with the consequences of their decision. Either they got very bad legal advice or they were the kinds of clients who want what they want even though it's not going to turn out to be in their best interest.

In any event, they're living in New Mexico now, having moved out of McLean a couple of years ago ................

10. Or who controlled the junta -
it's hard to know who was in charge, but I think Rove had a hand in everything that happened.

And, yes, they enjoyed the protection of the immunity from prosecution.................

9. They will petition the Supreme Court
November 17, 2008: In response to the Court of Appeals November 17, 2008 denial of the Wilsons' petition for rehearing of their civil case against Vice President Cheney, Scooter Libby, Karl Rove, Richard Armitage and other unnamed officials, CREW's executive director Melanie Sloan stated, "The Wilsons and their counsel are certainly disappointed by the Court of Appeals' decision, but it is not over yet. Now we will petition the Supreme Court to hear the case." Sloan continued, "There must be consequences when government officials abuse their power and endanger national security for political ends. This is an issue worth fighting over and we will not give up."

17. I met them last December, and they talked a little about this
Unfortunately, they were not very forthcoming with details about the status of the lawsuit for
obvious reasons, and Valerie was rigid in her unwillingness to say anything about her CIA work,
to her credit (and to my frustration! LOL). But they both said that the move to New Mexico was
largely just to be way out of the Washington area limelight. Their children are both still young,
and they didn't want them to grow up in a circus-style environment. As Republicans (!!! I hadn't
known that), Joe in particular was more than a little bitter about the way Cheneybush had treated them.
