Well, Harold Ford Junior just did us a favor, and it was unexpected by me.
He took the helm on Meet the Press, backing Dick Armey up against the wall as he supported the tea parties. Armey said that the tea parties were not so much about taxes, but about how our tax money is spent.
Armey had to say that, because Gregory had just quoted that Americans, in brand new polls, were in general not unhappy about their level of taxation.

Up speaks Harold Ford and says (of course I am paraphrasing, this just happened)

When we use a credit card, he said, we usually have something to show for what we bought. In the last 8 years your party, Mr. Armey, has charged billions of dollars to the detriment of the nation, and we have nothing to show for it. No increases in health care, no health care for the children, no infra structure built or repaired, nothing we can point to about how this money was spent, plus with our war we have de-stabilized the Middle East.
In contrast, he said, Obama's spending will go to the things we desperately need, and in the future we will be able to point to and see what the money was spent on in our national best interest.

AHHHHH
It was very nice.
And he was not interrupted by anyone.

2. Very Nice.
He really seems to be the leader in this discussion and is leading with quiet force, which is such a relief after some of the sniping that goes on during these shows.

3. Good statement and indeed surprising coming from the likes of Harold Ford Jr., but
there is little he can do or say that would change my opinion of him in any way. He is, and always will be, a conservative Corporate tool IMO.

16. I agree with that too...
I think some are upset because they lost some in the stock market and a lot will be angry this week because Obama will be cutting out the Pork they complain about.

9. Are the Repukes bringing Armey out of the closet the way they are with Newt?
Edited on Sun Apr-19-09 09:48 AM by bulloney
They're apparently facing the fact that the new faces of the Republican party--Palin, Joe the Dumber Plumber, et al, aren't resonating with the voters. So, they regress and reincarnate the Ghosts of Repuke Past--Newt Gingrich, Dick Armey,et al. What's next? Are they going to take a page out of "Weekend at Bernies" and prop up the body of Reagan, showcasing him at various functions and make all of the conservatives warm and fuzzy again?

10. They needed a Dick Armey for all the teabagging they were doing last week. Remember?
Sarah Palin is unequipped for the task - though there would have been no shortage of Republics willing to try. Then again, it's likely that even that Yahoo from AK knows what teabagging is and declined the invitation.

Seriously, Dick was available and still has name recognition. It's just serendipity that his name and teabagging will now and forever be linked.

11. Yes! It's good to know someone represents my concerns.
My god, these people are less than intelligent if they can't see what has just happened to America.

Bush ran the country. In to the ground. Period. You'd have to be worse than blind to not see it. Teabaggers are idiots. There's no argument.

Harold Ford belongs to my small club of Congressmen who are real.

18. I don't think you know the "real" Harold Ford Jr.
"On October 10, 2002, Harold Ford was among the 81 House Democrats who voted in favor of authorizing the invasion of Iraq.

In Congress, Ford had an ideologically conservative voting record. He supported a ban on benefits for same-sex couples, as well as the Federal Marriage Amendment (which would ban same-sex marriage). He told Democrats they should be more supportive of the Iraq War and criticized Senate Democrats who attempted to filibuster the nomination of Samuel Alito. He was one of the few Democrats who voted for the Bankruptcy Bill, and he supported some restrictions on abortion, defining himself as a pro-life candidate, including supporting a ban on intact dilation and extraction (called by its opponents, partial-birth abortion). He supported the Republican effort to intercede in the Terri Schiavo case.<15>"

yeah, he's "real" alright. A "real" corporate slimeball.

23. Oh geez. Thanks. I neglected to do my homework on the guy.
Thanks for keeping me straight. I know Biden voted for the bankruptcy bill, but we know true colors of these guys.

What I don't understand is how lopsided these people can be. How can someone vote for the Iraq invasion resolution, and then turn around and condemn the spending on it. Better late than never, I suppose.

26. Because he's DLC....that's what they do.
they cheerleaded for the Iraq War when it was politically convenient, now are against it because it is politically convenient. The DLC doesn't do anything based on principle, just political convenience.

12. True but...
That argument doesn't do so well when talking about the financial sector bailouts. It's going to be pretty hard to point to them and say, "here's what you got for your billions".

But a smackdown of Armey is still nice.

13. I saw that too
He also mentioned that the big spending during the depression built the highways and other infrastructure that led to the growth of commerce from state to state. He said if the President at the time would have done nothing (like the Repugs) are proposing now...the Great Depression would have lasted much longer than it did.

He actually did pretty good today.

14. You must have been reading my mind
I was really surprised and I loved it because I was screaming at Armey " what is your Plan" I left the room for a minute and when I came back they seemed to be talking about something else I watched Armey's face he was glad they went on a break did anyone ask him what was his plan.
