WASHINGTON – Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will again carry the Republican mantle opposite a primetime appearance from President Barack Obama on Tuesday.

Jindal, considered a potential GOP presidential candidate, is slated to headline a major congressional fundraiser that coincidentally fell on the same night as Obama's planned news conference.

Jindal was widely panned for his televised response to Obama's address to Congress last month. This time, he will speak to a live audience of Republican faithful in Washington. And his speech — scheduled well before Obama's news conference — will likely begin before Obama's evening remarks.

10. Ya gotta ask yourself, Why are they doing this?

My best guess is that they've got him all programmed for his rehabilitation. He's probly spent days working with a professional speechifier, and his message will be very carefully crafted and laden with wingnut buzzwords and fundy dog whistles. After the self-destruction of Steele, he's the closest they've got to a tame Darky, so they need him, which means they gotta fix his image. Kinda like when they tried to school Palin, but with a little more raw material in the cognitive domain.

Laying aside the amazing news that the Republicans are giving the time to Bobby Jindall again -- "Hi, We're the Republicans And We're Utterly Clueless" works for me as a GOP brand -- but how the hell do they justify giving a GOP response after a fricking press conference?

I mean, Jake Tapper and Chuck Todd are going to be asking questions, aren't they?
