Former staffers of the Rocky Mountain News have launched an online publication called in In Denver Times to continue the "spirit" of the Rocky, based on a "150-year tradition." snip

"The jointly operated evening Denver Times and morning Rocky Mountain News either kept silent about the Klan or reported positively on it. News historian Robert Perkin described the morning daily's managing editor as "an ardent white supremacist and a red-blooded Klansman." The twin papers' opponents charged the organs, owned by John Shaffer of Chicago, were actually mouthpieces for the secret society. Russell Cunningham, the News' city hall reporter, was Klan member 22447."

Yowch.

1. Yep, the Klan wasn't just a southern phenomenon
Denver had its Invisible Empire, and I'm ashamed to say that Portland and Oregon also embraced the Klan in the early part of the 20th century, an embrace that still has repercussions to this day.
