The Govt needs to start selling pieces of AIG off.
They need to protect the subsidiaries from the stupidity of the parent company.

Then they can let the derivatives shop wither on the vine.

4. I always thought that was the plan.
Now I'm wondering if they are refraining from doing so because the public would not support paying out on credit default swaps if that was the only part of the company left.
