A Grand Slam MANDATE? "Draft Palin Effort Begins In A Denny's In West Haven"
Draft Palin Effort Begins In A Denny's In West Haven

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/11/draft-palin-effort-begins_n_173832.html

History will show that the starting point of the grassroots movement to draft Sarah Palin as president began at a Denny's Restaurant in West Haven, Connecticut.

On Tuesday evening, the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee -- operating independent of any candidate or political organization -- held its first meeting to gin up support for the Alaska Governor's White House run.

The group, which is planning more events in the future, claims to be the first in the nation to fundraise on behalf of a theoretical Palin candidacy. That advocacy for the conservative Alaskan extends into firmly Democratic Connecticut underscores the political clout Palin earned among hard-core conservatives during the 2008 campaign. But it's hard to imagine that Palin plays well in broader New England.

Here is the full email announcing the meet-up

First Gov. Sarah Palin Meet-up Held in West Haven, CT

The first meet up for the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee was held Tuesday, March 10th at 6:30 pm in West Haven, CT at the local Denny's restaurant.

The event was covered by Abbe Smith of the New Haven Register. She was interested in the reasons why people were supporting Gov. Palin and took copious notes about our Commitee. A photographer was there, so we might expect a fairly detailed feature article. (will provide a link when available.)

Gov. Sarah Palin Meet-ups will be held in towns and colleges across the country the second Tuesday of every month. The next scheduled meet-up is Tuesday, April 14th.

The idea is for people of like interests to meet informally on the second Tuesday of each month. No official talks, or speeches. Just some coffee, a bite to eat and a chance to chat.

Look on the Meet-up Page for scheduled meet-ups in your state.

Thanks,
Paul Streitz

2. I grew up in West Haven and this is bizarre.
It is a very democratic town. Weird. I wonder how many people showed up.

4. But it's kind of central and easy to get to
you can draw the whackos from almost the entire State. Except the whackos on the Gold Coast they wouldn't be caught dead in a Denny's before the 2:00 AM bar closings.

I would have loved to drop in on that with my two kids and just let them run wild among the fundies after sugaring up with dinner pancakes and loads of the "telephone pole" syrup they serve there.

10. Yeah, and right off the exit. I would have loved to see your kids running around in there.
I moved to MI 10 years ago and there are so many fundies out here that I forget that there are any out east. I tend to glorify CT in my head. I do miss it though.

3. Pic of the first meeting.
Even Katherine Harris showed up! It's obvious what the "supporters" see in both Sarah and Katherine!

9. HA! They talked about this on MSNBC the other day. That goup
ha raised a whopping $3,000 in several weeks of trying! The reporter who was on said "Obama raised that much every hours! We all know just how much $3,000 can buy in a campaign, and it sure isn't much!"

12. The meeting was held in a place full of pork, syrup and muffins.
How appropriate for the handout-loving, platitude-spouting, cranky-old-white-guy-arousing Palin.

14. "gin up support"

I actually had to look this up in the Urban Dictionary...I thought it was something they made or (or mistakenly used for "drum up support"), but it is a real saying (although they say it should probably be "gen up" i.e., generate support for something)

I guess they're working the gin-soaked floozy angle...

19. I thought as much when I saw this on the front page of the NH Register thismorning.
Six people! And it makes the front page of our "newspaper."

I don't live far from West Haven, as I live in the Westville section of New Haven. My doc is there and they have two absolutely wonderful Turkish restaurants, both on Campbell Avenue, plus a nice ethnic Turkish food store where you can get authentic Turkish yogurt.

I like West Haven. It's a bit down at the heels but I have always considered it better by far than East Haven (also known as "staven").

First my state offers it's only born in this State President--GWB.

Now we will be known as the beginning of the Palin 2012 candidacy?

Thank God I was born in New York.

17. Why go to all this effort to "draft" her? Pretty sure she is going to "volunteer"
to do it anyway.

I guess maybe these folks are bored or "scared" and need to be around other members of the Palin cult to feel better.

21. Hey! Denny's has this apple crisp that they put vanilla ice cream on that
is to die for.

I go there for that! Not often, but whenever I get the urge for an apple concoction with or without ice cream.
