Dear Mr President-Make a REAL EXAMPLE of the bastards that got us into this mess!
So many families, who have played by the rules, worked hard, saved not for lavish lifestyles but to buy a home, put their kids through school or to save for retirement are seeing their dreams come to a crashing halt. Why the fuck should the bastards who have grossly profited and milked the system for their own enrichment not face justice for their actions? Bonuses for failing companies is blatant insanity! Tax rates that allow the obscenely wealthy to pay an overall lower rate than working men and women are blatant insanity! If the President and his team want to instill faith in the system, then it's time to make a fucking example of those who allowed this to happen, even if it includes members close to the administration! IANAL, but it sounds to me that maybe some of those RICO rules might apply here (from wiki):

RICO offenses

Under the law, racketeering activity means:
Any violation of state statutes against gambling, murder, kidnapping, arson, robbery, bribery, extortion, dealing in obscene matter, or dealing in a controlled substance or listed chemical (as defined in the Controlled Substances Act);
Any act of bribery, counterfeiting, theft, embezzlement, fraud, dealing in obscene matter, obstruction of justice, slavery, racketeering, gambling, money laundering, commission of murder-for-hire, and several other offenses covered under the Federal criminal code (Title 18);
Embezzlement of union funds;
Bankruptcy or securities fraud;
Drug trafficking;
Money laundering and related offenses;
Bringing in, aiding or assisting aliens in illegally entering the country (if the action was for financial gain);
Acts of terrorism.

No club-fed, no safety nets for their families, make a real example of these bastards, so no one will ever contemplates pulling this shit again. Pass some true oversight and regulations over businesses, then you can start restoring faith in the system.

PS and don't forget some of the biggest assholes alive-the WAR PROFITEERS!

:rant: sorry, but I had little sleep and am angry beyond words!

1. like merrill lynch?
where 1 currency trader lost $400 million but showed a $120 profit himself in 2008
and the firm lost 27.6 billion but gave out 3.2 billion in bonuses to top execs and that
money was from bail out funds.

2. K&R Exactly! For being with little sleep and angry, you said what's on
my mind! I said to Mr. Snappy this morning when the pundits are screaming for a message to instill confidence in the economy.....prosecute and regulate! Yes! Matter-of-fact, I'm sending that message to the WH this morning. I think we all need to do that. imho

4. Sorry 'bout the sleep and anger, the rant is righteous though
These words were exactly what I needed to read this morning. I don't sleep well either and find myself up all hours of the day and night searching for the very words you just wrote hoping that finally this will all come to an end. Someone with authority will stand up and say Enough Already. After all this is our country too...

7. soooo....
You're saying that we need to go after those that kept us hostage to the foreign oil suppliers and allowed the oil price shock that brought this whole financial house of cards down...

You're saying we need to go after those who, despite repeated warnings, kept insisting nothing was wrong at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac even as they bundled worthless loans and sold them off, to various investment entities, with a quasi-government seal of approval...

You're saying we should go after those who failed to enforce our immigration laws and encouraged illegals who had no long-term intent to stay in the houses they bought...

Hey, I couldn't agree with you more. But you realize some very powerful politicians, some of whom are key players in the current schemes underway in DC, are the targets of your wrath?

think rumsfeld, bush & cheney. Maybe it's time for our elected leaders to be "scared straight". If examples are made, then perhaps they will not act in their own self interest instead of the nation as a whole. Regardless of political affiliation, those who misused the public trust should be penalized-imho.
