Sen. Dodd to give Swift Boater the boot (Sam Fox)

Dodd to give Swift Boater the boot

Sen. Christopher J. Dodd said today he will "strongly oppose" the nomination of Sam Fox, a big Republican contributor--and backer of the 2004 Swift Boat Veterans campaign against John Kerry--as ambassador to Belgium.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is scheduled to vote Wednesday on the Fox matter, a month after Sen. John F. Kerry, D-Mass., the Democrats' 2004 presidential nominee, grilled the St. Louis businessman on why he supported the Swift Boat group.

That group relentlessly attacked Kerry's war record. Dodd's stance puts him directly at odds with Connecticut's junior senator, Joseph I. Lieberman, who last month took the unusual step of appearing before the committee to lavish praise on Fox, saying the nominee "represents what America is all about," and touting him as a potentially "extraordinary ambassador."

Dodd, D-Conn., did not mention Lieberman today, but made it clear he does not want Fox in the job. "U.S. ambassadors need to be both responsible and credible," Dodd said, "and Mr. Fox's support for an organization known to have spread falsehoods illustrates neither."

2. Great news!
Why there isn't already a permanent hold on this jerk is anybody's guess...

More reasons why Sam Fox is not qualified to be ambassador:

- Made horrible records like "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" and "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)"

- Appeared topless many times in horrible British tabloid papers

Sam Fox is NOT QUALIFIED TO BE AMBASSADOR!

pissed at whoever votes for him. And when I ain't happy email boxes ain't happy. }(

5. Fox's testimony in regard to his contribution to SwiftBoatLiars was full of distortions.
He claimed that he supported SBL's because "the other side was doing the same (tactics)." Not true. That he "didn't know" about what lies the SBL's were putting out, that he contributed only because "he was asked to contribute." Couldn't be true.

I'll give him one thing...he told John Kerry that he truly was a hero, that his medals were indeed legitimate. Yet he funded those who viciously put out lies claiming the opposite.

The Democrats should fight this nomination with every muscle they've got.

6. Lieberman is one nasty, vindictive SOB
I guess poor wittle Joe is still upset that Kerry supported Lamont so strongly last year, as the Lamont campaign itself acknowledged. How childish of him. :nopity: Argh, when can we tell this cyst to f--k off? His pasty face is all the advertising that the party should need to push for a super majority next year in the Senate.

And Dodd is a good man.

12. It may not just be to hurt Kerry
Fox heads (or headed) a Jewish Republican group. I assume given Leiberman's foreign policy they are on the same page. He and his wife gave Leiberman (the only Democrat I saw on the Looooong list about $21,000.

Leiberman needs to be reminded that paying for people to spread lies is a very serious violation of the religion he professes to follow.

8. Why doesn't Dodd just put a hold on the nomination
This committee has 11 Dems and 10 GOPers, it would take just two Dems to vote with the GOPers to ensure this guy passes out of committee.

10. Good, but
it's also important to remember that this guy isn't even really qualified to be ambassador. It's not just about Kerry v. Fox.

14. Lieberman blames Kerry for his loss to Lamont in the primary. Joe was polling fine
until Kerry-Feingold withdrawal plan vote last June. Lieberman spoke on the senate floor on the REPUBLICAN'S TIME to denounce the bill.

Lieberman got lots of press for his move which the mediawhores trumpeted for his support of Bush, but it really rubbed Connecticut Dems the wrong way.

After that vote and its attending publicity, Lieberman's poll numbers took a noticeable dive.
