WTF ??????????????
Edited on Tue Feb-24-09 01:26 PM by garybeck
Check out these two headlines, supposedly covering the same story!

Huffington Post says:
Bernanke: Recession Should End in 2009, 2010 Will Be Year of Recovery
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/24/bernanke-recession-should_n_169440.html

CNN says:
Bernanke: Recovery Will Take Years
http://money.cnn.com/2009/02/24/news/economy/bernanke/index.htm?postversion=2009022410

And people wonder why we don't trust the media.

3. Editors write headlines
It's a matter of perception.

4. do you think it's their perception or an attempt to sway opinion?
Edited on Tue Feb-24-09 01:33 PM by garybeck
i think it's more the latter. these headlines are so opposite, I don't see how you can call it perception.

9. It could be either
or neither.

The stories have a different slant, but both are technically true. Besides, reporting is biased by its nature. People are biased.

I don't think it's a conspiracy. If you look at headlines across the country they will probably all be different for the exact same story.

5. I have been watching CNN alot lately and really think ...
... they WANT America to be scared shitless. Even moreso than the other channels. Not sure what's in it for them because overforecasting gloom will make the Dems' numbers rise even higher when the recession lets up sooner than later ... or maybe they're trying to create the 'self-fulfilling prophecy' that helps the GOP tank what's left of the country ...

Can't figure out their angle.

7. Right, but there's 'scared' and there's "SCARED!!!!!"
And the latter does not serve logical reaction/planning/recovery well, IMO.

10. The stories are similar, it's the headlines that deceive.
And one says COULD, while the other says SHOULD....

CNN: NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said he's hoping the recession could end later this year, but he cautioned that a full economic recovery will take "more than two or three years."

HUFFPO: From The Wall Street Journal... scroll down for live video from the hearing:

U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said Tuesday that the recession should end this year and 2010 "will be a year of recovery," if actions taken by the government lead to some stabilization in financial markets.

12. Technically, they're not conflicting
as 2009 and 2010 represent multiple years.

13. CNN is fearmongering in the headline.
The headline only needed the words "full" and "2-3" to be accurate. They deliberately left it out.

"Bernake, Full Recovery will take 2-3 years"
