Thomas Hicks just said the most freightening thing on the Daily Show.
He wrote "The Gamble: General David Petraeus and the American Military Adventure in Iraq, 2006-2008"

http://www.amazon.com/Gamble-Petraeus-American-Adventure-2006-2008/dp/1594201978/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234326486&sr=8-1

Quoting Gen O'Dierno: "The things Iraq will be remembered for haven't happened yet."

3. What would you do if someone invaded the U.S. and killed or helped to kill 1,000,000 non-combatants?
Edited on Tue Feb-10-09 11:35 PM by patrice
I and millions like me would go to our graves seeking Revenge.

5. Well, many people, if made to endure the loss of family members, would seek revenge.
They might do something extreme, like strap on a bomb vest and go for a walk to kill American soldiers or try to come to the US as a refugee before shooting up a mall or a school with guns and homemade bombs or even attempt to smuggle a bomb onto a plane full of Americans.

I know that's how I would feel, family or not.

13. I think you're absolutely right, what other recourse is there? Staying will only make matters worse.
The ONLY solution that staying in Iraq fits is Genocide.

Just exactly like Americans, no matter how we beat the Iraqis down, they'll just get tougher and tougher, surviving by whatever means necessary, even lying and playing nice with us, until they get their chance to do the thing that drives them: Revenge, a dish best served cold, I hear.

11. This guy is smoking some good stuff
He is unable to accept the fact that the total failure of Iraq began with the support of some, not all, generals n the Army and that those who resisted and were punished are the true heroes.

What's he talking about, a mutiny?

If we don't leave, we'll have to fight out way out. 80% of Iraqi's wanted us out in a year and that was 2006. He and Petraeus are simply defiant and disobedient when the president has bigger things to
deal with than their hurt feelings.

16. He may mean a Sunni-Shite-Kurd showdown - the exact thing that Cheney
Edited on Wed Feb-11-09 01:10 AM by peacetalksforall
and Rumsfeld wanted and were working towards, but it didn't happen fast enough and Turkey was armed and ready to take the Kurds. Russia was ready to intervene. Their plan failed.

I think we will learn (some day) that many insurgent acts were carried out by us - meaning the U.S., U.K., Israel, possibly Blackwater, possibly France or another coalition partner - including American beheadings. (Only a feeling.)

I hope we will never see another photo of Rumsfeld and Cheney in any photos -'working' for their bosses, the ceo's and barons.

Who knows what the Gen meant. Only a miracle will prevent more devestation.

Our leaders held Iraqis in contempt. They held us in contempt.

Sorry to be so blunt. It's been 8 long tragic years.
