Homeless Fort Myers woman offered help after Obama's town hall
Homeless Fort Myers woman offered help after Obama's town hall

Henrietta Hughes was offered a home by Chene Thompson, wife of State Representative Nick Thompson, who heard the homeless woman’s pleas for help to President Obama before a local and national crowd.

The house is in LaBelle, the first home Scere Thompson bought after law school. She told Hughes, “Just give me the opportunity to help you.”

Hughes broke down in front of thousands when she told the president that she and her son have been homeless for more than a year. They are living in a pickup truck.

Obama hugged her after she asked her question and said his staff would help. A staffer later gave her a card to the head of the housing authority and she was told he would help her.

1. God Bless this kind act by Chene Thompson. Partly political, but thoughtful none the less.
"Henrietta" was my grandmother's name ... her nickname was "Etta." Heartwarming. :loveya:

21. Me too. Henretta.
She reminded me of my Grandma.

God bless this woman who was willing to look at her and say I can help.

No one should have to suffer through homelessness in this country. I wish we could all look at our assets and lend a hand.

10. It's happened before.
People marching to Washington, that is.

I hope we never need it, but I also hope our citizens will always know when it's time to go marching.

8. well Obama's got his work cut out for him trying to reach
these brain damaged, emotionally stunted authoritarians. That is really ugly and disappointing from a fellow American. They confuse individualism with isolation and competition. There's room for everyone to have a better life. No one is taking anything away from them. We need to stick together. All of us. Look out for each other or we will never survive this.

9. What a great gesture by Mrs. Thompson.
I don't know if her husband is a Democrat or a Republican, and I don't care. I wish a lot more people were able and willing to make such a gesture.

22. Good. I was wondering how this would work out.
Especially because after the President said only that he would have someone talk to her after the speech, I...wasn't very hopeful. So it's great someone was able to assist her.
