O’Connell honors her brother by speaking out
Meg Heaton Hudson Star-Observer
Published Friday, March 23, 2007

Nervous and with shaking hands, Kathi O’Connell of Hudson spoke publicly for the first time about the murder of her brother Dan and his co-worker James
Ellison at the hands of the late Fr. Ryan Erickson in February 2002.

As hard as it was to do, she knew she was among friends and people who would understand what she was trying to do. (Details of the murders and investigation appear with this story.)

O’Connell’s audience of about 150 was made up of survivors and family members, both adults and children, in an organization called SNAP, Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, at a recent conference in Chicago.

Speaking with her were the parents of a boy killed 30 years ago by his parish priest and a retired police officer who had investigated the murder of a nun by a priest back in 1980.
