Florida: Well on its way to becoming Libertarian State.
Check out this article and notice the way it's slanted to sound like dismantling an important part of growth mamangement is a positive thing. Then check out the comments so you can see how Floridians really feel about it. There is a major difference between what Floridians want and what ends up in our legislature, and Democrats in Florida will never be able to capitalize on it because the real estate industry is a corrupting force to both parties.

Florida heads for U-turn on road mandates for developers
TALLAHASSEE - One idea emerging in the Legislature to kick-start Florida's stalled growth engine: repeal the road-building mandates developers hate.

Four years after lawmakers and then-Gov. Jeb Bush put sharper teeth and more money into the state's 20-year-old development rules, legislation unveiled Thursday proposes to roll back those transportation requirements for most of the state's cities and urban counties.

Although most of the state's once-exploding population centers now have more new homes than the marketplace can absorb, members of the Senate's Select Committee on Florida's Economy described the bill as a growth stimulator and dubbed it the "Community Renewal Act."

The bill would "unclog stalled projects that have been hamstrung by requirements" and "remove government-created barriers to job creation," said the committee's chairman, Sen. Don Gaetz, R-Niceville.

"We want to lift those barriers and get government out of the way."

1. The best way to revive growth in Florida is to revive the economies
of the rust belt states. Retirees can't move to Florida and buy a house if the can't sell the house they live in now.

2. 300,000 houses vacant, I believe the article said.

So, I think we are already over-built. Frankly, what we need is not more retirees. We need more youth and families.
