New York's Air America affiliate sucks..
I'm pretty sure it's the main station, but WWRL in NYC sucks. Not only did AAR get rid of Randi Rhodes, (a huge mistake), but they do not air a single woman's show Monday-Friday. They don't seem to air Rachel anymore, unless she's given up her show, which I've not heard. And from 9-12, when they could be airing Stephanie Miller, they have three hours of crap.

Anyway, that's my rant. Ever since Mark Green took over, it's been a long slide downhill.

1. It is crap
I don't listen to it. I stream Stephanie Miller in the morning or Thom Hartmann later in the day.
Can you believe they replaced Hartmann with Ed Schulz. Big Eddie is so not New York.

7. Thanks for the info
I didn't see the new station listed last time I checked the AA website. I've been listening on XM radio but the shows are yesterday's during my drive time. Wonder if I can get that station in my car???? I have trouble getting AM on my car radio.

4. Ed Shultz takes up WAY too much airtime...
I really wonder sometimes if he "gets it" at all.

16. Not Drivetime
Drivetime is 6 AM to 9 AM. The health show starts at 9 AM, so it's not in drivetime. The health show is an infomercial, which pays WWRL more than it could get by running Lionel from Air America or Stephanie Miller from Dial Global. It's that simple.

12. And after 6 p.m., the reception is lousy . . .
. . . in the car in North Jersey.

Rachel's AAR show is moving to mornings, but don't know when, and whether WWRL will pick her up.

Ed Schultz and Ron Kuby are okay, but I really miss Thom Hartmann.

9. Rachel is suppose to start a morning show
I don't know exactly what time or if it will be available in New York. Ron Reagan has expanded to 3 hours 6PM to 9PM ET. Don't know if New York is carrying that either. Los Angeles carries Steph Miller and Ron Reagan.

10. Air America does not own WWRL
Air America doesn't own any stations and has no say over which programs any station, including WWRL, chooses to broadcast.

WWRL could broadcast Stephanie Miller (who has nothing to do with Air America), but chooses to run infomercials instead. It could also broadcast Air America's Thom Hartmann, but chooses to air Ed Schultz instead. Ed Schultz also has nothing to do with Air America.

Rachel Maddow has chosen to give up her evening Air America show to concentrate on her MSNBC show, but will do a one hour morning show which Air America will offer to stations at 6, 7, and 8 AM. The show will include a lot of material from her MSNBC show from the night before.

Mark Green's brother sold his controlling interest in Air America last summer to Charlie Kireker. Bennett Zier is now Air America's CEO and he and Program Director Bill Hess are making programming decisions, not Mark Green.

13. Jeez...
Is anyone going to own it for more than a year or so? Either way, the NYC affiliate, which I thought was the flagship, sucks.

14. "Flagship" is meaningless
"Flagship" usually refers to a station's New York City affiliate, but that doesn't mean that Air America has any control over what WWRL chooses to program. If it had such control it would run the complete Air America lineup (including Lionel, Thom Hartmann, Richard Greene, and Jon Elliott) on WWRL, which has chosen to run other programs instead.

15. Pretty much agree
tho I couldn't stand Randi and I like Ron Kuby a lot.

Ed Schultz is virtually unlistenable. They took Hartmann away for HIM? I honestly don't get their decision-making process.

The vitamin shows fill up the 9-11 slot. Why can't they put a real show in there?

I like the early morning guy, Erroll something, and Ron Reagan is pretty good as well. But Rachel is a big loss, and I think she is watered-down on TV as compared to her radio program.
