Someone from the local paper just called to verify that I sent this and that these are my own words. I don't know how common that is, so I asked, and she told me they do it in an effort to make sure people aren't copying things from websites and e-mailing them to the paper.

Anyway, she said it will run either Saturday or Sunday.

Many Republicans are excusing the outing of Valerie Plame Wilson as a CIA operative in order to protect certain members of the current administration. In the process, they are essentially advocating making America less safe.

It is a fact that Plame, whether covert or not, was an operative in the CIA's Counter-proliferation Division. Among her responsibilities was the facilitating of networks of operatives who gathered intelligence. Those operatives have been compromised as a result of the outing of Plame, many of them altogether unable to continue their work. A direct and undeniable consequence is that our government is now less effective at gathering and processing intelligence. That puts America at greater risk of a terrorist attack.

It should follow that the blame for a future attack could be laid at the feet of these partisans, but it won’t matter—they’ll be too busy with their usual refrain: “It’s Clinton’s fault!”

I write a monthly humor/satire column for a small entertainment-oriented newspaper here, but other than that I didn't know what the procedure was.

I can't get enough of his writing, from his fiction to his columns...everything.

"Sick Puppy" is the book in which we learn the most about Skink. I hope we see more in the future. :toast:

Calling about letters is fairly common and actually a good thing. You wouldn't want someone sending a letter in your name.
