3. One of THE great places to live.
I miss it...except for the weather and the prices.

6. I have only visited
maybe 10 times. Its expensive and intense. The weather isn't any worse there than anywhere else I have lived. But if I could afford it I would find it very exciting to live there.

11. I was referring to the winter and mid-summer weather, which can be brutal.
Edited on Thu Jan-15-09 06:55 PM by stopbush
Jumping over the ice floes that surround every intersection during the winter is hell (the cold goes right through the warmest of boots...not that all NYers wear boots, ya buncha boot-wearin' wimps!), and the humidity in the summer can be unbearable.

When you live there, you just take it. But I can tell you it was no picnic during the blackout of 1977 when the AC was out for 12 hours or so. You feel like your skin is melting. The only thing keeping it together is the dirt in the air and your own putrefying body odor. And traversing those midtown canyons with an arctic freeze whipping around the skyscrapers is not for the feint of heart!

And you can't avoid it. Anywhere else, you drive in your car right up to your place of work, run from the car into the building and reach an equilibrium. Not so in NYC. You're gonna deal with the elements directly, one way or another.

19. I actually kind of like when its windy here...
keeps you awake and reminds you you're alive  It usually isn't too far a walk from a subway station to your office so hey you just deal with the cold or the heat. Its mad its crazy but its HOME.

7. You are
I love New York and New Yorkers. You're competent and unless they're an emergency you give people space. If you didn't have winter I might still be there. :D

4. Yes. You are.
We have been watching the coverage of the rescue effort all afternoon and the recovery of the plane. Talk about preparation, teamwork and everyone focused on one goal.

One hundred fifty five people walked away from what could have been a horrific tragedy.

You all should be proud.
Julie

16. US urban cities can humble you
I was slightly overwhelmed by San Francisco when I was there in the summer of 2001.

I haven't been to NYC, but I suspect I would feel the same general emotions.

Chicago ought to be interesting these days.

S. Florida/Miami would be the only major exception, the old Cuban emigres had poisoned this town for too long.

18. I love NYC and I've long wished I could
live there for a year or so. Doesn't look like it will ever happen, alas. I haven't even visited it that often, maybe a total of six times in my life, but I've always loved it. Last two visits, in 1999 and 2003 were for a week each.
