It's NOT a Fucking Leap Year!
It was a damned "leap second" They added a second because our planet couldn't keep up with our extremely accurate... never fail... always correct clocks.

Of course, my super accurate calendar and my super accurate blackberry could be wrong... but when I look at February, 2009 it says there are 28 days.

So... either my blackberry and my calendar are wrong, or Microsoft and the dimwits on TV are... At this point I'm banking on my Blackberry.

2. If we had only changed the Gregorian calender to match the Zune...
...none of this would have happened.

Call the Pope; it's time the RCC acknowledged who REALLY runs the world...

3. You are being sarcastic about Earth not being right, aren't you?
I mean, we have the shittiest excuse for time keeping I've ever seen. The farmers, Native Americans, and Wiccans know better how to keep time. Mother Nature tells you what time it is. And if you don't believe me, ask her. :P

12. I'm not the original poster, but "No", sarcasm was probably not intended or present.
For quite a while now, our atomic clocks have been able to keep
better time than our rotating rock-in-space.

The planet runs slower and slower because things like tides slowly
cause a frictional slow-down of the planet, so we need to keep
adjusting atomic time to roughly match the Earth's ever-slowing
rotation.

8. If you are running a Windows machine,
double click the time display in the lower right corner of your desktop. That will bring up the calendar. Then select February, 2008 and note that it had 29 days. I expect Macs work similarly, but I'm not certain of that. ;-)

9. Yeah... but last night the dumb asses were saying it's a leap year...
THIS year. They got confused by that extra second.

If you are THAT dumb, you don't belong on TV.

13. That would be a dumbass on TV, then
Microsoft were dumbasses earlier, when they made the things go wrong on the 366th day in 2008. On the report I heard, it was very clear the devices had gone wrong on Dec 31st 2008, not Jan 1st 2009. If your report was last night (ie last year), then it clearly was about 2008, not 2009 - unless they specifically said that then had gone wrong because there was going to be a leap year, after they had gone wrong. Did they say that?

Ha ha! Good point! It's amazing how low the bar is these days for so called "broadcast journalists."

10. One of the dimwits made a comment about a Leap Year and then said it was "365 days long"
According to the Gregorian calendar, which is the civil calendar in use today, years evenly divisible by 4 are leap years, with the exception of centurial years that are not evenly divisible by 400. Therefore, the years 1700, 1800, 1900 and 2100 are not leap years, but 1600, 2000, and 2400 are leap years.
http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/leap_years.php

So most Presidential election years are leap years - 2008 was a leap year. Adding a second or some other minuscule amount of time is a different adjustment to the calendar/clock cycle.
