Almost one in 10 Floridians on food stamps

In the last two years, the number of Floridians on food stamps has increased more than 40 percent to 1.7 million. That increase is the highest in the nation, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. And it's the second-largest jump in the state's history, surpassed only during the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, said an analyst at the Center of Budget and Policy Priorities, a Washington-based think tank.

1. I think there was a recent article stating that 1 in 7 on food stamps in Oregon.

5. I think we encourage assistance more

Considering the poverty levels in the country, even in good times, I would think there would always be 1 in 10 on food stamps. I think some states attach more stigma to assistance than others.

2. That's probably the only "bailout" us common folks will get.

That and the "generous" thirteen weeks of unemployment checks (I would get a huge 275 dollars a week!)
