The righties aruge that global warming flies in the face of science - no, it doesn't - you know what does - THE CLAIM THAT THE EARTH IS 6000 years old!

1. If you believe that homosexuality causes hurricanes to strike, science won't convince you.

If you don't believe the science that tells you that the Earth
is 5 billion years old, you might believe that that global
warming comes from some supernatural source like Satan.
Some believers say that the ecological effects are signs of the
end times, not signs that humans are wrecking the planet.

However it is common sense that you make things bad for yourself
if you let too much waste pile up.

3. actually, those views fit together. please go with me on this
imagine the earth is only 6000 years old.

This means carbon dating and core samples (which measure time by depth, time can be seen in layers in earth, rock and ice) are invalid, since carbon dating and core samples claim to date back several thousands of years or more. Obviously this cannot be the case if the earth is only 6000 years old.

Moreover, since most evidence of global warming cites trends in temperature and climate going back several thousand years, it also is highly suspect (Again, 6k year old earth couldn't have had a temperature reading from 10k years ago).

Of course, if we were really hurting the earth, wouldn't God stop it or somehow try to warn us?

Finally, don't forget that its not so much a matter of Global Warming not being real, but more of it not being a real threat. After all, pretty soon Jesus will come back, and the true believers will be raptured into heaven. So why shouldn't we pollute and use up all our resources?

5. Because the 6000 years is derived from Biblical sources.
I believe at a certain Bishop Usher added up the ages of the various ancestors of Jesus and got the number 6,000 for the creation. If you're a fundamentalist this makes perfect sense and I'm sure that they can produce detailed scholarly papers on the subject.

What does not make sense to these people is the scientific method. If all truth is contained in the Bible, then trying to learn more about the world--especially if what you learn contradicts the Bible--is heresy.

Sadly, the rabbis, priests and scribes who cobbled together the Bible failed to mention Global Warming, either that or God just figured that he gave humans the intelligence to explore and learn and that no one would be dumb enough to take this stuff literally.

6. What's comical is that
they also probably use the "it's cyclical" approach ... which has to accept that the Earth is billions of years old ...

7. You need to find a bible verse you can interpret
as a warning about global warming. If its in the Bible, it must be true.
