GOP's Idea of Health Care - Missouri HealthNet: In other words
Edited on Wed Mar-21-07 11:38 PM by usregimechange
"The current Missouri Medicaid program now provides eyeglasses and some medical equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, oxygen) without making them contingent on losing weight or quitting smoking. If Missouri HealthNet were only to provide such services as “credits” to be earned, this action would represent a significant reduction in Medicaid coverage." In other words, by cutting poor and disabled people of their health care we can save money in the short term while we will soon be paying for more emergency room visits. Smart.

"The Report includes no such recommendation that private insurance or the State Employees Health plan condition medically necessary treatment on losing weight or smoking cessation." In other words, poor people are evil.

"Conditioning receipt of this same health coverage on work activities or other behaviors deemed appropriate by Family Support Division case managers would be unlikely to lead individuals in need of “entry level” jobs to find the kinds of jobs that provide health insurance. More likely, this would cause even more low-income parents to lose their Medicaid coverage without any means of replacing it." In other words, by cutting poor and disabled people of their health care we can save money in the short term while we will soon be paying for more emergency room visits. Smart.

"The Report attempts to address the large decline in children’s coverage that resulted from the enactment of Senate Bill 539. That legislation imposed new premium and affordability requirements in the Missouri SCHIP program. Since these requirements were adopted, SCHIP participation has declined by nearly 25,000 children. This decline is in addition to the more than 90,000 adults that lost coverage directly based on eligibility cutbacks alone. The Report recommends revising the SCHIP affordability test so that so many children are no longer denied coverage because their family has access to expensive health insurance coverage that the family simply cannot afford. The Report estimates that 13,800 children will be covered due to these changes." In other words, Republicans who voted to cut more than 100,000 poor and disabled people off their health care coverage a couple of years ago will now appear to actually give a crap. We know better.

I wonder how much Missouri would save if we cut off welfare to the rich, starting with TIFS (See Kansas City Star of 21 March 2007). It chaps my cheeks to be paying taxes to corporations with city government acting as their tax collector.

2. Yeh, Jesus hated those poor people
He campaigned for the rich all the time.

St.Peter is awaiting the rich at the Pearly Gates.

3. MO legislators need to lose weight to keep their insurance.
I suspect that they are on average more overweight than the poor folks they preceive as sinful and evil and I want to ask Senator Nodler and a few others to lose some weight.
