70 sounds pretty good right now. There is a slight chance my job might transfer me to Atlanta, and I really don't want to do that, but a few more days like today and I could change my mind...

But to be series, you folks hunker down and I'll try to send some higher-temp vibes over to the Hawkeye State.

The Solstice is up and running right now.

And only one damn month before Monkey Boy loads the U-Haul and high-tails it out of town.

It's winter! No bugs! No guilt about staying inside posting on DU! Catch up on reading and watching movies!

Tomorrow I'll shovel the steps, dig out the car, and go to my friends' annual Solstice party, eat food, drink a little wine, and smoke some righteous weed.

It's winter! :bounce:

44. Merry Happy Solstice Christmas to you, too!
I actually LOVE winter. Six years in Alaska totally changed my attitude about cold and snow and dark and all. It's become my favorite season.

Yeah, it can be a little rough -- I don't have running water, so the outhouse gets a bit uncomfortable in the cold. On the other hand, I don't have to worry about frozen pipes! :D

But absolutely NOTHING beats walking out on a moonlit night with the snow glowing and sparkling like a gazillion diamonds, and the sky so clear and full of stars you swear you can see all the way to the center of the universe. The snow-frosted pine boughs -- all dark green and brilliant white. I live in a perfect Christmas card picture world, it never ceases to delight me!

Bon nuit! Stay warm!

56. Just old printed photos, and I don't have a scanner -- sorry.
I lived there from 1989 to 1995, I didn't get a computer until 1999. I still don't have a digital camera (or any camera right now, actually).

I have lots of brilliant memories of Alaska, though. It was quite an adventure living there.

908 PM EST SAT DEC 20 2008

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EST SUNDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DETROIT/PONTIAC HAS ISSUED A
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW...WHICH IS IN
EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EST SUNDAY.

SNOW WILL SPREAD INTO THE REGION TONIGHT AND ACCUMULATE TO 1 TO 3
INCHES BY DAYBREAK. AN ADDITIONAL INCH OF SNOW IS POSSIBLE ON
SUNDAY. WESTERLY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 20 TO 30 MPH ON
SUNDAY...WITH FREQUENT GUSTS UP TO 40 MPH EXPECTED. THIS WILL
CREATE SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF BOTH THE NEW SNOW THAT
HAS FALLEN AND SNOW ALREADY ON THE GROUND. VISIBILITIES WILL FALL
BELOW A MILE AT TIMES IN THE BLOWING SNOW. THE STRONG
WINDS...REDUCED VISIBILITIES AND DRIFTING WILL CREATE HAZARDOUS
DRIVING CONDITIONS.

TEMPERATURES WILL ALSO FALL TO 10 TO 15 DEGREES BY EARLY
AFTERNOON. THESE TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH THE WINDS WILL CREATE
WIND CHILLS OF 5 TO 15 DEGREES BELOW ZERO.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MEANS THAT
VISIBILITIES WILL BE LIMITED DUE TO A COMBINATION OF FALLING AND
BLOWING SNOW. USE CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING...ESPECIALLY IN OPEN
AREAS.
