School Project Gone Awry Becomes Death at Your Doorstep
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- A school project ended with an unlikely result Monday when a teen rang an elderly woman's doorbell dressed all in black and a gruesome Halloween mask.

The 85-year-old woman on Bellmore Road was speechless when she answered the door. After seeing the man in the mask, the lady could barely walk or talk, police said.

A Framingham High School teacher apparently assigned the school project gone awry. The sociology project was supposed to see how people acted during abnormal situations, such as when someone enters an elevator and looks at fellow passengers, instead of facing forward.

<snip>

The three teens involved in the incident said they want to apologize to the woman, but she said she does not want to see any of the trio ever again, police said.

2. Whoa.
At first I probably would have freaked, thinking it was a burglar or rapist, but then I'd have LOL'ed my ass off at them - as I chased them with my shotgun, that is ....

3. Poor fucking judgement...Lucky no one was hurt or killed
She could have had a heart attack or a hand gun. What a stupid decision by that teacher.

5. We did this project in college, but it was made pretty clear what the guidelines were
We were not supposed to be frightening, intimidating, or offensive, for example.

Scary monster mask would be out.

A giant chicken costume would have been okay.

7. I was the unwitting subject of one of those, and was pretty irritated
I was minding my own business in the university cafeteria, reading and chewing, when some girl dashed by and dumped a pile of books next to me. Just before dashing off she asked if I'd "watch" them for her. Of course I said sure and went back to reading. In seconds, another girl dashed up and snatched the books away; in a few more seconds, the original one came by to demand where her books were.

Ha ha. As I said, not all that amusing.

Otoh, not at all frightening. Terrifying an old lady out of her wits is very bad form indeed.

8. Something similar to that happened to me once, also in the
college cafeteria. I was seated at a table, and a complete stranger ran up to my table, grabbed the ashtray, and ran out of the door. Being a psych major, I figured out pretty quickly what had happened, and laughed at the stupidity of the experiment. I mean, did this woman think I was going to chase after her, and demand that she surrender the ashtray, in the name of the law???

The ashtrays in the cafeteria were those tin-foily kind, very small and disposable. They probably cost $.02/each. I don't remember if I was smoking at the time, but even if I was, there were ashtrays on EVERY table, I could have very easily reached over and got another one. I thought it was an incredibly dumb experiment - not really sure what it was intended to show, other than that college students don't give a shit about cheap disposable ashtrays.
