Why are some of you blaming Alabama for the NO vote on the Bailout?
Thirty-five senators voted against it, and I'm pretty sure not all of them represent Alabama.

Senators from the states of Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas,
Utah and Wyoming voted against the bailout.

I don't care for Richard Shelby at all, and I would never vote for him, but he was acting consistently with his conservative beliefs. He doesn't believe that it's the government's job to bail out poorly managed companies. He also voted against the $700 billion Wall Street bailout, and as a freshman House member, he voted against the Chrysler bailout in 1979, long before Alabama had an automobile industry.

I support a bridge-loan to the big-3 auto makers. But some of you are losing points for calling me and people like me "ignorant inbred rednecks" and "toothless hillbillies." I used to think that liberals were inherently better people than conservatives. But endless comments like those make me think again about that.

And where the hell was John Kerry? Why couldn't he be bothered to vote at all?

Thirty-five Senators. From a number of states. Quite a few states.

Utah and Wyoming.

4. I blame Republicans, not states.........
The motive for the Repukes to kill the big 3 bridge loan was strictly political. The reason they voted it down was because they want to get rid of the union whom they see as a threat politically. I'm not one of those who blames Alabama or any other state but I blame the republicans as a whole.

6. The big 3 have no one to blame but themselves. Their 'SUV/Hummer greed' has........
helped to drive up energy prices contributing to the destruction of our economy. The bastards have fought fuel efficiency and made US hostages of the criminals of OPEC. I still believe we need to bailout these irresponsible scumbags as a matter of overall financial sustainability and national security. The rest of US struggle everyday to keep our heads above water while the wall street corporate filth empties the treasury and continues the same behavior that put in this mess in the first place. I am hoping BO really does something about this crap and stops putting wall street corporate criminals and the wealthy first. It is pathetic to see out representatives in congress continuing to undermine our country's economy. The representatives from Alabama are just part of a bigger problem.

9. It has nothing to do with SUV/Hummer greed
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 09:49 AM by DainBramaged
If you're so smart, why did Toyota just ask Nippon steel for a 35% reduction in the cost of steel? Why did they shut down the Prius project in the US? Why is their net profit going to suffer by over 70% LESS this year? It's because the M-A-R-K-E-T ground to a halt over lack of credit.

Learn the facts before you start blaming the Domestic car makers. Oh and BY the way, what about the BILLIONS in subsidies the Senators who lead the charge against the bridge loans have given to the transplants to settle there, that's OK to you I guess?

10. Toyota is also guilty of the 'SUV/Hummer greed' with their lineup of vehicles.
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 08:44 PM by Double T
The market ground to a halt because of extreme corruption and greed by MOST of the financial institutions throughout the world. Toyota recently employed 200,000 workers in America and most would roll out the red carpet for more jobs like those! Hybrids are costly; high mileage pure combustion engines are the immediate answer. The technology exists so where are they?

8. This must be wrong......
There are no bad republicans in states not considered part of the south.

"But some of you are losing points for calling me and people like me "ignorant inbred rednecks" and "toothless hillbillies."

A friend of mine does excavation, and clears lots for new homes. He related an experience to me that involved a job with an individual who had retired to this large community, ninety percent of whom are not from the south. This particular gentleman was from New Jersey.(Why are so many retiring here if conditions are what many "progressives" believe?) Anyway, my buddy was called for an estimate to clear a lot for this New Jersey gentleman for a new home. Before "Bob" could quote a price, the gentleman, with self-assured confidence announced that he would set the hourly rate, and if my friend didn't like it, he would contact someone else. His price per hour was ten dollars more than "Bob" was going to charge him. In the interest of good relations, "Bob" thought it would be rude to argue with a customer. This is a small example of the arrogance, and ignorance that permeates this board when it comes to matters of the south. Letting them run with it, at times, can be beneficial to us, and quite entertaining.
Ignorance, and arrogance is not exclusive to the right-wing, as democratic progressives on this board serve up silver platters piled high with proof on a daily basis. They are no better than the freeper who's right-wing stereotypical view of liberal democrats define who they are. One member wondered how tough it is to be a democrat living in the south. Not tough at all. Our right-wingnuts make us proud to be democrats in the south. Progressives in other parts of the country? Not so much. Hang in there Bama, and remember, those who are losing points with you because of their high-minded ignorance, are not that desirable anyway. Admirable that you would give them points in the first place. Thanks.
