Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 05:32 PM by depakid
they'll be obstructed by the likes of Utah, Oklahoma, Texas and the deep southern states.

Doesn't have to be that way, though.

Obama said during the election that he wanted scalple to deal with the federal budget- well now he's got one (as does Pelosi).

Time to start using it on some pet projects in Utah and in other states whose representatives repeatedly get in the way of economic recovery.

And its time to start looking at where its most expedient to appropriate money from the stimulous packages.

I'm sure Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe would like to bring some of that home.

25. Hey!!! Utah slated to get ~$11 BILLION in Fed Stimulus plan next year? FUCK THAT!
http://www.philly.com/philly/news/nation_world/20081212_Bailout_proposal_collapses_in_Senate.html

Both of Utah's Senators vote for the financial bailout, but voted down the Big 3 because they wanted the cuts to the UAW to happen in NOW rather than in 2011 when their contract expires.

But those same Senators are BRINGIN' home the bacon more than any other state:

http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_11128827

Taylorsville » The $3.9 billion in road projects that Utah shelved for lack of funds last month are potholes compared with what the state could pave with an envisioned federal economic-stimulus package.

Try $11 billion -- or nearly double what any other state has said it's ready to start within the three-month window when Congress hopes to create jobs with the spending push.

The Beehive State has that much work -- including a potential doubling of the stalled Interstate 15 project in Utah County to stretch 40 miles -- ready to go if President-elect Barack Obama's stimulus plan passes this winter, Utah Department of Transportation Executive Director John Njord told the Utah Transportation Commission on Wednesday.

"We are uniquely prepared in our state to move forward with projects," Njord said.

Next in line is Texas, with about $6 billion in requests that could immediately create jobs with federal money.
\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\//\/\

Yes, those rugged individualists out there are looking to get the BIGGEST HAND OUT in the whole damn country?

UTAH GETTING TWICE AS MUCH ROAD MONEY AS TEXAS? (picture a map in your mind).

PLEASE SOMEONE tell me there's a way to STOP *OUR* MONEY FROM GOING TO THESE ASSHOLES!

4. Where is the proof that money handed to these FAILED executives would result in ANY job retention?
They won't promise it, but they still want paid. Mark my words.... hand 'em some cash and they will lay off thousands of workers anyway, squirrel some of it overseas, and pay themselves bonuses.

15. I guess you must have a well functioning crystal ball
You should invest in the markets. :)

I, however, predict no complete failure either way, and hence there's only a downside to handing government money to corporations, and that is FASCISM.

12. Revolting...
like I said on another thread, it's this whole modern right-wing idea that industry is expendable but Big Money is sacred. Helped to ruin my country over the years too. And I'm one who thought that some sort of intervention for the banks was necessary. But not one that just lets bankers get away with big bonuses, while accusing car workers of being overpaid.

20. I'm appalled at Lisa Murkowski
who usually has her head screwed on fairly straight. Of course, with her family's history, I suppose it makes sense that she would support the banks and not the workers. I'm sure this won't be forgotten in 2010.
