DU HOLIDAY PET PICS, it's submission time again!
Everyone seems to love this now annual DU tradition, so attach your Pet's photo to this thread, I will be collecting them from now until DECEMBER 20th.

Look for a Happy Holidays from DU Pets before December 23rd (has to be done by then because I am away for Xmas!!)

If your pet has crossed the Rainbow Bridge, please let me know his/her name, I haven't decided whether I will do a separate video for The Departed, or just include them in the final video.

Please keep this kicked and rec'd so everyone has a chance to submit their kids. Thanks!

He is very spoiled, but a very good dog. Not 'yippie' or afraid of people (except small children, which is probably from seeing my reaction to them). I am always afraid little kids won't be gentle enough with him, he is only 3 lbs.

It looks like the only pup I ever owned - (later allergies became a problem). She was a little stray dog I adopted from the streets of Mexico when I lived there, and who I smuggled into the USA in a shopping bag - on an airline no less. Yes, she had her shots before she left Mexico. And obviously airline security was less rigid. I miss her still. Lucky you! She looks like the sweetest thing.

Thank you for that.

Isn't it interesting how a pet can be the most comforting thing in times of need?

Sometimes it's hard for me to distinguish the difference, rather the importance of animals over humans.

Take care

I found The Murph wandering around a WalMart parking lot 4 years ago. The vet thinks he was about 9 months old. He had ear infections and his hair was so matted he was walking on three legs.

I didn't even bother to try to find the owner.

He's mine now and dammit, he is my best friend. Indeed.

Thanks again.

91. They're six months old now
It was a litter of six; three survived.

Moro, a black cat, was given away last month.

Swashbuckler (black and white, like his mother) and Pancho (black with white paws and underbelly, like Sylvester) remain here. I'm trying to give them away.

In September, Spitfire delivered a litter nine (ouch). Only three of those survived. I am starting to let people know about them. They will be three months old Christmas Day.

They are all males. Bandit and Robin Hood are black and white. Zorro is black.

88. My doggy family.
Gibson....got him from the people who lived in the apartment below me when I was in my second year of law school...they were set to take him to the pound. He was my faithful companion until he passed in 2004.

Neville....the last of our brood...he's going on 16 although acts the same goofy way he did when I got him from the humane society. Originally I was planning on getting a little female puppy to be friends with Gibby and instead picked an 8 month old male Old English Sheepdog. When it's love, it's love. He just had surgery a week ago to remove a fatty tumor from his hiney (affectionately known as "Dave the Dangler"). Sweet, but not much smarter than a rock, this dog has lit his rear on fire not once, but twice, standing in front of the fireplace staring at his tennis ball.

Millie....the only female of the bunch, the Grand Dame and ruler of all. Always pretended to be afraid of thunder until I came home one day during a thunderstorm and found her outside rolling around in the mud completely soaked. She looked a bit peeved that I discovered her treachery. She passed suddenly in 2005.

Bristol....My little brown dog, my shadow...died within a matter of minutes from what the vet believes was a stroke or brain aneurysm on Nov. 5, 2008. I was so comforted by all the wonderful messages of support from the amazing DU community. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=8217802&mesg_id=8217802

98. Wow....that made me tear up big time.
He really was the best little dog. I know my other dogs loved and do love me as much as I love them, but Bristol was different somehow, it's like he loved me so unconditionally. He was always with me, if I even readjusted in my chair he was up as fast as lightning just in case I was getting up. It's been a little over a month since I lost him and I still can't accept it. I still pause after opening the garage door because he always dove out of the doggy door like a bat out of hell to greet me and I'd tell him to get back on the steps before I'd drive in. Wonder how long it will take me to stop pausing.

104. I understand. That's exactly why I posted it.
I lost my Bo (LaMist Bojangles) nearly 20 years ago. I knew it would be bad but I had no idea I'd go for 2-3 months before I'd pass an entire day without crying. It hit me hard. He was as true and companionable and loyal and trusting as anyone could ask. Bright, playful, supportive ... my very best 'friend' ever.

It was a few years later that I heard someone say that about being the person their dog sees. It was like a ton of bricks. I'd never heard ANYTHING so apt ... so hopeful, such a perfect aspiration. Anyone who's had that special dog knows it.

Bristol's expression reflects exactly that. You understand. It's funny how we're alerted to our capacity for unconditional love ... and we owe a deep debt of gratitude to those furry friends who serve us that way.

Your words give me great comfort. I guess I had never really looked at the picture in the way you did. I pulled up my other Bristol pictures and only in the ones I took does he have that exact same look on his face, looking up at me. I don't know how to explain how that makes me feel....I don't have the words....but it makes me feel more peaceful. Thank you for that and I'm glad you had your Bo.

126. Thank you. Cotons seem to challenge that "yappy little white dog" stereotype. They are mellow,
quiet, and companionable.

He's the best -- the only time he barks is at the UPS guy or the postperson. And the trainer said to me, "Well, he think it works. He barks. And they don't stay. They go away every time."

I thought.... wow. So right.

Anyway, mostly he's hangin' with me. Right now, curled at my feet under the desk.

Oh, and he's got hair, not fur, so he doesn't shed and most people aren't allergic to him.
Most Cotons (that's Coton de Tulear) have very long hair which is rather a pain (though it does look awesome). I went for a puppy cut after doing that long hair thing for 3 years. He's now 7 years old. He's my buddy!

Can you tell that I love him?
I'm irrational when it comes to this dog. Love him. Love him. Love him.

I need a dog that I can carry if I have to, because I've had to... :-( I adopt senior dogs from rescue. Jackie is the exception; he found me at five months. :-) I've had a Cairn, a Fox Terrier mix, and two Brussels Griffons (both pictured in my sig...). :loveya:

Here are Jack and Charlie in action. The barking in the background is my other Brussels Griffon. Note, this is Jack at five months, at eight pounds. The vet tech that placed him with me said that he's a big dog in a little dog's body, LOL. Charlie is just the opposite, thinks he's a lap dog...
