Official: At least 78 dead in Mumbai attacks
13 minutes ago

MUMBAI, India (AP) — A top state officials says at least 78 people have been killed and 200 have been injured when gunmen opened fire on a crowded Mumbai train station, luxury hotels and a restaurant popular with tourists.

Johnny Joseph, chief secretary for Maharashtra state, of which Mumbai is the capital, says the death toll could rise further.

The gunmen attacked the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station in southern Mumbai and Leopold's restaurant, a Mumbai landmark, along with the Oberoi and Taj Mahal hotels

2. The attacks are ongoing. People never know when there will be another
attack. 200 injured. How horrible. I bet it is al Qaeda. Those poor people.

6. Based on what?
The huge terrorist worldwide criminal conspiracy George wants you to believe? Because brown people aren't capable of independent thought or planning?

7. Are you saying there were never any al Qaeda inspired attacks outside the middle east? What about
England, Spain, Africa embassies and Thailand? Did those al qaeda attacks never take place?

Sorry I don't like George Bush but al Qaeda was messing with the world in a deadly fashion a long time before George Bush became President.

12. Al qaida? Who said?
Mumbai has had ongoing ethnic strife for decades. Why would they need to import an overlord? And it's as likely to be a strike at Muslims as at Hindus, so why don't we find out first?

Unless you really need to have the idea of a monstrous enemy with vast tentacles in your head all the time.

16. Obviously I don't know who is responisble for these attacks. The element of coordination
reminds me of al Qaeda. Of course I could be wrong. But al Qaeda does exist.

20. Are you implying al Qaeda isn't international in the scope of its attacks? Is that what you
mean by tentacles?

21. And there have been attacks of this kind since long before
Al Queda was ever created by Bushco. Ever hear of Black September? The Olympics attack in '72? The Tel Aviv airport attack by the Red Army Faction?

Half the so-called al queda attacks we've heard about were NOT al queda. The Bali nightclub, for one.

You are leaping to conclusions. It is just as likely to be a Kashmiri separatist group, such as has staged several similar attacks over the years.

26. Anyhow. Those poor people. Let's hope this is the last of whatever attack
this is. Let's hope it stops right now and hostages are freed, bombers are caught. CNN is saying it could be hindu extremists or muslim attackers.

8. India has been having problems with a group called Indian Mujahideen
Indian Mujahideen have been found to be behind
recent terror in India's east and southern cities.

The west coast had been pretty calm until now.

9. I guess I shouldn't have jumped the gun. But the way these attacks are coordinated reminds
me of Al Qaeda. We will all have to wait to hear what the investigation says.

31. That is precisely why the tactic of terrorism is so effective, and impossible to defeat...ever..
anyone with a grenade, rpg, gun, bomb (who is prepared to die) , can kill people anytime..anywhere..

Patience is a hallmark of terrorism.. That's why, every time I hear Doofus crowing about how he's kept us "safe", I laugh..

Terrorists just have not decided yet on a target..they will strike when THEY are ready..and not before..

One thing they may be doing in India, is trying to cripple India's financial system.. Unsafe conditions do not inspire confidence in foreign businessmen..

Whichever. We don't know yet. But so far your group hasn't operated in Mumbai? Which has plenty of dissident groups of its own?

It makes Al Qaeda look like C.O.B.R.A. by comparsion.

32. Cry U.N.C.L.E., will you.
You're turning this thread into C.H.A.O.S.

(And it IS inappropriate, as many are dead,
and it appears at though hostages are involved.)

36. "young boys in jeans and T shirts"
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article5240992.ece
"They were very young, like boys really, wearing jeans and T-shirts," Rakesh Patel, a stunned British guest at the Taj, told an Indian television channel. He said he had been among about a dozen foreigners who had been herded together by two heavily armed men and taken up to the hotel's upper floors.

"They said they wanted anyone with British and American passports and then they took us up the stairs. I think they wanted to take us to the roof," he said. He and another hostage had managed to escape when they reached the 18th floor, he said.
