Obama: 'The vision for change comes from me'
Edited on Wed Nov-26-08 11:59 AM by bigtree
Obama: I'm the one with vision of future

CHICAGO, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. President-elect Barack Obama Wednesday bristled at suggestions he's filling his administration with old Washington hands.

At his third news conference in as many days in Chicago, Obama said he is not looking to the people he's appointing for a vision of the future.

"The vision for change comes from me," Obama said after announcing his formation of a President's Economic Advisory Board, modeled after former President Dwight Eisenhower's intelligence advisory board.

"The old ways of thinking and the old ways of acting just won't do."

1. He sets the policy and the vision and his appointments follow through.
Sounds reasonable to me.

4. I've never been a proponent of the STFU school of argumentation. I know it works well
for bullies and for tyrants, but it does nothing for me.

Just sayin...

6. I'm talking about people like Tweety who tried to provoke drama
where there was none. The talking heads were all agog that Obama would select people with more economic chops than he has and might twist his agenda. To them, a wholehearted STFU.

To clarify.

3. Uh-huh. Count me skeptical.
Same faces, same lobbyists, same policies. All I'm seeing is triangulation redux.

7. Unfortunately I think that the alternative would be Bushesque
Simply appointing people like "Brownie" because you like where they stand ideologically, regardless of their experience/effectiveness would be bad leadership.

Getting capable people who may disagree with you but will follow orders is probably a better strategy.

If anyone sabotages his plans who is supposed to be enacting them, I'm sure he'll get rid of that person.

8. Having some established players in place, gives Obama cover to push
for some bold changes in the economy, healthcare, environment, etc.

12. I don't there's enough acknowledgement by the critics of the critics
Edited on Wed Nov-26-08 12:40 PM by bigtree
. . . that there will be some level of influence on Pres. Obama by these folks he's surrounding himself with. It's what he intends. It's not unreasonable to express concern about which voices might influence him the most, especially on issues where he may not have enough experience to make an independent decision. Certainly, as acknowledged by Mr. Obama himself, there will be times where we profoundly disagree. That's not 'hand-wringing.' it's a very valid and vital expression of our democracy. I think Mr. Obama expects and appreciates the input.
