Got on the Span this morning and....
I actually got to ask Doris Kerns Goodwin a question. I love history and Doris is one of my favorites for popular history and I was thrilled to ask her what brought her to Lincoln as a biographer, and I was delighted with her answer.

The thing that really made me excited though was when she referred to my comment, about forgetting the rancor of the election, later in her interview.

It was also a great joy to watch Doris shoot down, with great class, the people that called with mis-information.

1. Good for you!
I heard you!

And yes, she does deal with whackjob callers as well as anybody. Maybe better. I'll bet that's tough when the unflinching camera is on you all the time you're listening to the question.

2. Thanks.
I get to watch it about 3 or 4 mornings a week. It's usually way better than watching the alternative, Joe the Morning Moran, or cnn.

3. A Great Call...And Segment
Doris is a fascinating lady. She, Halberstam, Brinkley, McCullough and Mariness are top rate historians who opened up a lot of doors through their own curiosity and love of both history and their subjects. The brought a perspective to these men and times that make it easy to draw comparisons with our current situations.

I loved the call who assumed she was a repugnican cause she wrote a book on Lincoln. The gap in the educated and the "self-educated" never ceases to amaze.

Cheers...
