Live fire coverage from KNBC-TV (link)

They've moved NBC programming over to their digital-only side channel for the night, so the main channel is all fire all the time.

The pictures are scary.

1. Thanks.
When it's 35 degrees here in WI, it's hard to imagine stuff like that happening elsewhere.

2. I was watching for hours today -- riveted.
A friend of mine who lives near Burbank said it's the closest a fire has come to him.

There are apparently three separate blazes - heartbreaking.

3. Scary stuff
Watching stucco houses with tile roofs burn is mind boogling. It has cooled down and the wind is much calmer where I am. (about 15 miles south)

6. I always wonder about that, too.
I understand wood-frame w/shake roofs burning, but not stucco/tile.

Stay safe, rufus dog!

7. Thanks
We are fine down here, had the fires last October so not much left to burn.

Today changed my attitude though. I was always comfortable since I lived in a stucco house with the tile roof. Guess I am going to have to rig up something to block the vents into the attics so embers can't get in, more importantly one for my neighbor who is fully exposed to a canyon.

We talked about it last year, now time to follow up. A cheap mister system above the vents would likely do the trick along with some thin reinforced concrete insert covers for the vents. Total cost under $50.

The lesson is everyone in a area susceptible to disasters should take the precautions and put together a plan.

8. Wow! I never would have thought of
embers getting in through the vents!
