Stewart's interview with Oreilly, please explain it to me
He didn't seen to go after him at all, sure he made some little digs in his own unique way, but that was it.

That doesn't work with olielly, he wouldn't have gotton it, the only way to handle a bully is to call him up on it.

It seemed like a softball interview.

1. Can't. It was nauseating.
Jon was trying, but not hard enough, imho.

I think the 5'7 vs 6'4 thing had him kerfluffeled or something.

Ugh!

10. I actually saw a Stewart-O'Harrassment interview years ago and it was the same.
I can't guess Jon's motivation for letting this douchebag off easy, but it sounds to me (I didn't see it) that this interview had much the same tone as the one I saw.

In it, Loofah O'Harrassment called Stewart a "liberal pinhead". The crowd gasped. A moment of silence.

Stewart replied (and don't get me wrong I love Jon Stewart) weakly and tepidly, with a wan comic face and joke to defuse tension, I seem to recall.

I was stunned. O'Harrassment needed to have his asshollery FORCEFULLY shoved back in his face.

It's the ONLY thing monsters and bullies understand.

Thus, reports of this interview surprise me not in the least.

Disappointing Jon...disappointing.

I cannot fathom his reasons for treating Loofah so nicely and weakly. It's hard to buy the "intimidated by his size" thing because it's so facile.

But maybe it strikes deep at some mental pattern from Jon's past. maybe when he was a little kid he got beat up by a very big kid or something. Who knows. Armchair quarterbacking is worthless, really.

but WHY would he do this, over and over...

I hope someone sends this thread to the Daily Show. I wish Jon could read it himself.

We love you, Jon, but for God's sake, STAND UP TO LOOFAH O'HARRASSMENT.

2. The whole show stunk.
The bit with Hitler was less than funny as well. His worst effort at a comedy show that I've seen.

3. I was just dissapointed
When Oreilly called him a propagandistic, Stewart laughed and just shook his head, he had an opening and should just called him up on his BS then.

4. We must have been watching different interviews...
He gave Billo just enough rope to hang himself with, and let him show his own stupidity. If Stewart would have came out swinging, then Billo would have been able to go back to his show and tell all his basement dwellers how the mean Hollywood Jew made fun of him. Sometimes the best way to handle a bully is to let everyone laugh at him, while letting him think they're laughing with him.

6. Normally I would agree
But not with the Oreilly type of Bully, Stewart could of been tougher.

7. He could have been tougher
But, as I've learned from having to debate with lots of right wing loudmouths at the bar I work with, it's better to turn the debate to the others listening. Instead of arguing with the twit in question, just make sure that everyone else listening knows that this dolt has no idea of what he's talking about. You're not going to show him the error of his ways, just show as many others around you the error of his ways.

12. TDS isn't a "gotcha" show
He is courteous to his guests (that used to be the normal course of business) and allows them to make their point.

I thought he DID go after him especially on the "center-right" nonsense AND on the history of ours being a progressive country (a progression of individual liberties)

17. Perhaps Stewart doesn't take O'Reily seriously.
I won't watch of listen to O'Reily under any circumstances, not even briefly, so I changed the channel before the interview. It seems to me that Steward is very good with vile and reprehensible people but sees no reason to work up a sweat for worthless wastes of bloviation.
