Social Conservatives upset with Bush after SOTU
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins isn’t the only right-wing leader unhappy with President Bush’s State of the Union speech.

“We're disappointed that he didn't mention cultural issues at all,” said National Review editor Rich Lowry. The Institute for Policy Innovation, a strong supporter of Bush’s plan two years ago to privatize Social Security, now asserts that he “lacked leadership in that he failed to propose any solutions.” Bush “left a lot of conservatives shaking their heads” with the speech, according to Bill Lauderback of the American Conservative Union. A spokesperson for Gary Bauer’s American Values lamented that the president “lost a golden opportunity to set the stage” by emphasizing right-wing issues.

Rick Scarborough, a key organizer of politically-charged “Patriot Pastors,” claimed Bush was beholden to the Religious Right to take up their causes:

“While the president spoke, I couldn’t help but groan inwardly as I reflected on the squandered opportunities of the past six years of a "conservative" majority. As he concluded his remarks with “God Bless,” it dawned on me that the speech didn’t contain even a passing reference to the issues that sent millions of Christians to the polls in 2000, 2002 and 2004 - making Bush a two-term president and giving his party a majority in Congress for six years - the first time in more than half-a-century that Republicans controlled the presidency and both Houses of Congress. Whatever else they voted for….Values Voters did not turn out in past elections so their concerns could be ignored the day after the election. Is it any wonder that so many us stayed home last November?”

1. oops, there goes another couple of percentage points in jrs poll numbers
Hey Mr Dobson and Perkins, can't believe you are now just picking up that jr is, well, less than credible. But please do keep threatening major GOP office holders and candidates to push theocracy in their speeches - we rather like the results per the further weakening of the GOP party.

20. Mr. Dobson and Mr. Perkins, Focus on your own families
and end your attempt to force your fake 11th century religious principles on those who not believe in them. Also your concern with people's quality of life ends at birth.

"We will not allow the Rapeublican religious nuts to Defetus"

The only Thing bush ever cared about was getting his hands in your collection plates. Chosen by god to lead, my ass. Or maybe the fundie nuts are just not living up to gods expectations and this is their punishment for being evil sinners?

a Black woman as SecDef? :wow: Supporting Israel in everything they do? :wow: Infringing on their civil liberties? :wow:

About the only thing they might support them on is illegal immigration but then Bush wants the "guest worker program" so he's even shit out of luck there. There's a bunch of totally confused white supremacists in our country right now. They don't know who to throw their bat-shit-crazy support behind. :silly:

Edited on Fri Jan-26-07 08:49 AM by rocknation
The climax of the first Nightmare On Elm Street movie is when the heroine defeats the monster Freddy Kruger by telling him he has no power over her because she realizes that he's a figment of her imagination. What really happened, Mr. Scarborough, is that last November, millions of Christians went to the polls AND VOTED OUT you rightwing Christo-fascists as surely as they did the Republican party!

They could care less about anything except dictating how the sex act transpires for everyone else, and who can who enough to form a family unit. It's all about control and/or denial of their own secret desires.

That is so right on. The religious right got addicted to being close to power. The Republicans got addicted to an easily manipulated voting bloc. Now they've all hit bottom.

Think about it for a few minutes, let it sink in, then get angry. You were used and manipulated for years (way back to Bush's Texas days) by Rove and Co. just to get your vote.

You didn't really think Bush gave a damn about your precious social issues, did you??

Bush is a lame duck. He can't be re-elected and with a Democratic Congress he can't do what he wants anymore.

The SOTU was just Jr's way of flipping the bird to the people that didn't come out to vote for him again this past election.

39. The religiously insane "values voters"....
were taken for a ride, again, by the Republic Party. When are these nut-jobs going to realize that the Republics don't give a crap about them? They merely use them as a tried and true voting bloc, throwing them a scrap of red meat every few years to give the appearance that they're listening to them, and insist that they themselves share their twisted theocratic dreams.

You lie down with dogs and you get fleas. You'd think god would give them a hint that they're being used and discarded like an old rubber by the Republics.

Oh well, it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of cretins.

47. And still they don't get it that Imperialism isn't conservative! Hello!
I told my GOP dad in 2004 that he had no conservative to vote for. There's never been anything conservative about foreign wars, especially needless ones.

This might, well, it's only a slim chance, that the GOP might wake up and get it that this family regime is not conservative at all. Never has been.

Until we bring the troops home, conservatism can't even get a toe-hold.
