of her, her music, and her struggle to return to a free South Africa. I met her in Dakar Senegal in late 1969. I was having doubts about returning to the US and she told me I must return to fight the beast. When we parted I expressed my wish to see her return home.

1. Wow. Onstage? Sorry to hear of her passing, but it is amazing that it happened
while doing what she most loved.

4. 'I will sing until the last day of my life'

She collapsed right after singing her signature song "Pata Pata". I'm glad she went out her own way. RIP.

8. It was so sad. I remember her first TV appearance in the US. It was
Harry Belafonte who brought her to the American audience. For that I am very grateful.

11. Best concert I ever went to was Ms. Makeba and Odetta
at a black college in the south in the 60s. My date and I were the only two white faces in the audience. Once the lights went down any tension from the oddness we represented evaporated and the magic started.

Rest well, great lady.

14. One of my best friends was her back up singer
From what she told me a few months ago, this wasn't that unexpected from close friends, because lately she had been drinking terribly.

15. Wow...
...I'm so very sorry to hear that. She was a hero of mine. Her music was so very powerful--I think she and Johnny Clegg were instrumental in moving the world to oppose Apartheid.

Rest in Peace, Ms. Makeba and megwetch from the bottom of my heart.
