Massachusetts Legislature is 144 Dems and 16 Repukes
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 07:52 PM by louis c
Massachusetts voters, speaking of a super majority, have to hire a private detective to find a Republican elected official. Besides the overwhelming 144-16 majority in the House, the State Senate is 35-5. Add a Dem Governor, 2 US Senators, every one of our 10 Congressmen, as well as each of our constitutional offices (Lt. Governor, Auditor, Treasurer, Attorney General, and Secretary of State). Is there a bluer state in this union. Has there ever been a bluer state?

1. Yay, Massachusetts!
It's just full of those "Massachusetts liberals" Bush used to refer to with such derision.

3. Wow.
Those numbers are insane.

My guess is that those 16 pukes are conservatives who represent the small enclaves of Massachusetts that are conservative. Maybe if the Republican Party knew the definition of a moderate, they would be more successful in the state of Mass.

10. Some southern states used to "bluer."
Of course, Mississippi, for instance, used to have a single-party Democratic system. But it was a largely right-wing party.

16. Southern Dems during "Jim Crow" were not real Dems
They were not blue. just as Lincoln, who technically was a Republican, would not be one today.

There is party realignment.

today's repukes were born when Teddy Roosevelt split the party, taking with him the traditional Republicans and leaving Taft to be the mouth piece of big business.

1968 forced the Southern Dems to George Wallace by not going along with segregation.

Now a new South has emerged. not only did they vote for a black man, but Southern states helped elect a Democratic President without a Southerner on the ticket for the first time since 1944.

11. They lost three seats here - was 19, now 16 - on Tuesday.
Often they don't even field candidiates in many races. Yet they bitch and whine about getting pummeled in elections.

This is really is a beautiful state.........unless you're a repube.
