This image was posted here before and I'm sorry to say I don't remember who posted it, but here it is again.

President-elect Barack Hussein Obama poses in front of the Lincoln Memorial holding Babe, a dog rescued from a puppy mill.

3. Gorgeous photo! That is exactly the type of dog they can adopt. That is definitely
a hypoallergenic coat.

6. Is that a Bijon?????????
Hahahahahahaahahahahaha! What a great photo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have 10 rescues at our home. Only one, Issabella Rossilini (tabby cat) is from the Humane Society. Our Wheaten is from a "Poodle" Rescue in Hannibal Missouri, named Truman,. Our other three cats are ferals gone tame. Our last cat, I picked up off the road, as he had been hit by a truc and was dying. The other four dogs were abandoned or tied to trees to die.

My first Wheaten I got at the Minneapolis dog pound two minutes before execution. He was a purebred and the best dog I ever had.

Thank goodness for a big house and an acre of fencing.

11. It really looked like a Bichon to me. Puppy mill would make sense. The indiscriminately
breed. Here is a pic of a Bichon...BTW...a poodle would also be a great choice! I had two growing up and they were super smart and super fun. :)

Bichon

10. It sure looks like a Bichon to me. There are lots and lots of purebred dogs available
at shelters. All the Obamas would have to do is go to NYC where there is a plethora of them. The housing crisis has unfortunately added to the problem. Many landlords do not accept pets.

And glinda! Bless you for all that you have done in regard to furbabies! All of my kitties have been rescue kitties and if I were to ever get a dog again, it would definitely be a shelter pup.

Hugs to you and your beautiful heart!
:hi:

16. Yes. It does look like a Bichon.
I know there are a lot of shelter dogs. And dog pounds! And rescue Groups! There are some from the military that are abandoned also. And good grief from Katrina still I will bet. Breeding in large lots has to stop. Mills and indiscriminate breeders must stop. I just heard the Obama family are thinking of two pups!
Thanks for the compliment. We did not plan to have ten but due to lack of being able to either locate original owners, get them placed in a no-kill facility or adopt them out, we have committed to them for the extent of their lives. I have probably rescued about 50 animals in my life, all I was able to reunite with owners or place. I also put together the plan that raised the money for a no kill-shelter. Am big on those (animals-environment) that cannot speak for themselves. It is my first love. Poor and handicapped are my second.

4. As a rescue volunteer my eyes once again watered......
when MY President-elect, the first one I have had in 8 years, said the family's preference is for a shelter dog. So what if, as Obama joked, it is a mutt like him? This man continues to amaze me for his humanity and total awareness of the world around him and that includes the epidemic of unwanted dogs and cats, a situation only exacerbated by the current economic downturn when families abandon animals in the basements of homes and walk away. How cruel is that?

I was walking my two dogs one day in a park near me and a woman walked by and commented on my two "angels". She said she had had to give up her dog...she said the budget just became too tight...it was either the dog or my cable. It was all i could do to keep from decking her right then and there.

When you take an animal into your home you assume responsibility for it. It isn't an option like whether you take the "complete choice" package on your phone or the HBO and Playboy channels... It is a living breathing creature of God's creation that is dependent upon you.

Okay..now I feel better after that rant.

5. Isn't it sad that we get teary eyed

at what is just basic humanity, something any and every elected man and woman should possess. The reason is because it has been completely absent during the last eight years. It's like coming out of the desert and being given a cool drink of water.

Awesome! I'd be hard pressed to wipe the smug off my own face if I had my picture taken with Mr. President!

Yes, I'm calling him President already... It's been so long since I've had one!
