My stock broker just called me .......
.... now we all know that in good times and bad, stock brokers love to blow sunshine up your ass. Mine is no different. He's got this megawatt sunshine thing that he uses. When he shines it up my ass, my head lights up and all my insides are revealed (mmmm ... the stents are holding pretty well, there ...... )

Anyway, Little Mister Sunshine asks how I'm doing.

"As well as can be expected given the fucked up economy, fucked up banking system, fucked up government and fucked up financial markets. How about you?"

He's been better. Wants to know if there's anything he can "do" for me.

"Yeah, buy my old rental at my old asking price and I'll buy some stocks from ya."

"Ha ha ha."

"No, really, Kevin. Buy it. I'll make ya a real deal."

He did the verbal equivalent of rubbing his toe in an arc in the dirt while I did the verbal equivalent of chewing on a twig of straw. We both did the verbal equivalent of shoving our hands in the back pockets of our boot cut jeans.

"Welp .... call me if there's anything I can do for ya."

"Thanks Kevin. I will."

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Kevin thinks that when we got down to 7800 a week or three ago, that was it. We'll test that bottom a few more times, but that was it.

Right.

Yup.

Uhuh.

So .... wanna go down to the Grange Hall for a beer, Kevin?

1. The worrisome kind of call from your broker is where they're crying
.......and you can hear the wind from him standing on the ledge.

2. There was an undercurrent of that, to be sure

3. Even more worrisome is when you can hear samba music
And the laughter of many young women in the backgroud, along with "Mas tequila, por favor!".

4. It would be really worrisome if that happened during a call from your accountant.
:wow:

8. Maybe it's your fault for trying to time the market.
What do you expect him to say, and why does he deserve grief for the state of the economy? Hell, if he could predict the future he wouldn't be placing your trades, would he? :eyes:

9. May I ask WHAT THE FUCK YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, YOU ASSHOLE?????
Timing the market?

Where did THAT come from?

My last stock purchase was last April, when I made the latest possible legal contribution to my IRA.

Are you truly an assumptive asshole or do you just pretend to be one????

13. It is not your fault at all. I feel intense sympathy for people who are not professionals

trying to make sense of this market.

What upsets me is when I see brokers, economists (although, they often get it right) or investment advisors calling "the bottom" or advising people to buy in or buy a particular equity.

Most of them are just as confused as non-investors are, but they can't admit it.

Seriously, I hope you have not been too damaged in this market. Hopefully things will look up next year.

There's a lot of extremely dangerous advice being given right now, in some cases by people who should know better.

14. He predicted a bottom a couple of weeks ago
he was wrong, and you're bitter about it. That's known as "timing the market".

Now about your attitude: I'd hate to be your dog, you probably come home after a bad day and kick the shit out of him. I guess the dog was hiding so when your broker called you decided he could be your punching bag.

Sorry you're losing money in the market; join the club. Now take your meds like a good boy.

16. I can't speak to his/her personal situation, but an alert broker
would never allow a client to remain in equities without moving a large percentage of the portfolio into safer cash or cash equivalents in this market in the first place.

It doesn't make much sense to me to blame the client for the broker's poor performance.

18. Not that simple.

Depends on the time horizon, and the client's aversion to risk. Here is (IMO) the perfect example of an investor who is overinvested based on his aversion to risk.

Short-term timing does not enter into the equation.

19. Okay, let's try this again ......
Where do you get 'bitter' from?

You're making shit up.

So let me be perfectly clear.

Go fuck your assumptive self. And Unless I **say** something, make no assumptions at all. If I want you to think something, I'll say it real clear

Now go play asshole someplace else, you fuckwad.

10. Hubby and I have a bet that the DJIA 7800 will/will not be broken
to the downside by Jan. 1. He's betting it will; I'm betting it won't.

His bet is looking better after the 10% drop from yesterday and today.

We were up 20% off 7800--but a 10% decline in 2 days--yikes!

When the market moves up, it can really take off. I've read lots of analysis
that it doesn't pay to try to time the market; if you miss the turn, you miss
a lot of the gain.

Although a lot of money has gone poof in the last couple of months, there is a lot of money
on the sidelines. The market anticipates economic conditions; it has gone down and we still
don't have confirmation of a recession (takes 2 quarters of data); it will turn up--on average--
6 months before we know we're out of a recession.

So, you pay your money and take your chances. I have already been buying in line with
the contrarian position that when others are selling it's time to buy, and when others are buying, it's time to sell. Time will tell whether I was too early.

having a broker try to blow smoke up your ass strikes me as a luxury problem, to be perfectly honest

just screen your calls and move on with your life if it's an issue
