I lost my mom about two years ago - well, two years minus three days (she died on Nov. 1st. Too sick to vote or send in an absentee ballot. If she had, it would have been for bush, unfortunately).

And I posted it here that night.

I was very quickly overwhelmed by the sweet, comforting sentiments of people here on DU. Their messages gave me such solace. Granted it was an awfully sad time and nothing short of a miraculous resurrection REALLY helps. But you will be enveloped in kindness and prayers and sympathy. People here are really wonderful and genuinely kind - especially during the rougher times. Lots of foul-weather friends here, especially when you need 'em most.

You don't really get over it, but time will soften the blow. Hard to accept now when the wound is so fresh. Just remember she's still with you and can hear and see everything in your heart. She'll never miss one of your events, and she'll have the best balcony seat in the house. And you can talk to her anytime you want.

my mother passed in 2003. She fell suddenly sick and was gone from our lives in a mere two week period. There are no words to properly describe this sort of sorrow. Even now I acutely miss her during the holidays. Thanksgiving to New Years is rough.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. One of my favorite memories of my mother, who was 71 years old in very bad health,was when I help her go vote in the 2004 elections. She too was a life long, "Yellow Dog" Democrat and she was so proud to have had a chance to vote against, "That man" (GW Bush). She died just a little while after that.
