I thought I saw a thread on it the other day but I didn't pay it much attention.

Now I'm getting the emails.

It certainly doesn't pass the smell test. It's not on snopes yet.

Anyone know where this comes from?

Thanks

edit to add:

...I found something in "Workforce" magazine .....(whatever that is)......where they mentioned a committee meeting where some "expert" spoke to the committee regarding the idea and a staffer was quoted as saying it "sounds intriguing." Hardly any kind of a policy proposal.

The reason I asked, is there is usually some tiny grain of truth in these bullshit emails - I find them easier to refute when I know where they came from..............versus just calling bullshit.

I'll submit it to snopes.

10. Update: The best I can make out....
There is an article in "Workforce" magazine regarding a committee meeting where someone spoke to the issue of making the change. A "staffer" said it "sounded intriguing."

I guess that's where it comes from. Hardly a policy shift or even a proposal.

15. Sure he was.
I'm a little sensitive to the subject. I was called a troll the other day by a prominent duer (who subsequently apologized by PM after re-reading the thread) and a couple others. I'm pretty sure that's the thread to which he is referring - I posted a thread about what I thought was Palin's justification for her kooky idea that she can exercise "authority" over the Senate. My position was her statements were not gaffes but some kooky right wing thinking from her black helicopter friends in Alaska.......some people took it as a defense of her position.

.......of course, I could be wrong. At second glance maybe he isn't calling me a troll. I will apologize if that's the case.

In the mean time, I'll delete it.

16. it's all good. I may have missed something myself
And for what it's worth, I don't think Palin made a gaffe at all about the VP's power. She's explicitly said more than once she'd expand Cheney's vision of both the VP's power and that of the Executive Branch in general. In other words, she seems to think a Dictatorship would be more her speed.

17. that's what I've been saying - Thank you.
I suspect it is some sort of John Birch nonsense or something.........perhaps from her friend "Black Helicopter Steve."

I've been arguing the idea on a construction board I frequent - the guy arguing Palin's position is an anti-tax jag-off Ron Pauler/ John Bircher.

Not that I think she will ever get closer to the oval office than she is now, but I could see them, in the unlikely event, making a play to start swinging the gavel in the Senate and then taking the issue to their stacked supreme court.

See: "Justice Sunday"
See: "Nuclear Option"

The courts AND the senate are the only things that has stood in these people's way and I don't think they will go quietly in to the night.

I further believe Palin is the first wave of the REAL religious kooks that the republicans have been dancing with for the last 25 years.

...like 401K's that voters are worried about... and twist it into a reason to be afraid of a Democratic win. It worked for them in 2004. They hope it will work again in 2008.

SORRY. Not. This. Time.

And, btw, forward crap like this to truthfightsback.com.

12. Another day another talking point.
It all boils down to a couple of congressmen who have vaguely suggested the possibility of taxing 401k plans and using the funds generated to establish another retirement fund that would be more secure. It's not going anywhere and Obama has never even remotely been a part of any discussion to that effect.

Repubs are liars, plain and simple. They will tell you anything to frighten you.

20. Because, for me, just saying "bullshit" or "nonsense"..........
.....like the majority of the posts here...........isn't good enough. I would prefer to leave the one word simple minded responses to the freepers and nit wits who send me the emails or post to the construction sites I frequent.

I've always thought a refutation has more credibility when one can determine the "sliver of truth" from which the LIE is based.

In this case, like most cases, there was an itsy bitsy sliver that was blown completely out of proportion. By citing the actual source and the absurdity of the proportion, I feel the refutation is more complete.

Also, I would hope anyone who reads this thread would see that it wasn't "the dems" proposing a policy proposal - In fact, it was an expert speaking before the committee and a staffer supposedly said "it sounds intriguing."

I come to DU to get an education on the issues and *GASP* have an actual "discussion" about them.

Is that OK with you?
