3. Funny story from today
So, if you have any idea where Rocklin is (it's fairly conservative), on the corner of Park and Stanford Ranch today there was almost a war between the No on 8-ers and the Yes on 8-ers. I kid you not, there were probably 40-50 people on all four corners with signs for both sides, and there were so many honks. It was crazy, and frankly a little humorous.

It's sad though to see how many "Yes on 8" signs I do see. In fact, though, I know of several friends who've stolen them, and routinely do. While I don't support nor condone such actions, I find it funny how a day later they just have a new sign out front. There are several around town though, and it's uncommon to find a street corner without a "Yes on 8" sign.

Likewise, today on other corners there were people holding "Yes on 8 signs" and "Yes on 8 = Less Government" which makes no sense at all, but more hypocrisy form the Republicans. I hope it fails, but honestly I think it's a tough game that we can only hope for.

5. I think it's a tough game also. The next time this comes around
the No on 8 people should hammer home the 1400 state and federal benefits that married people get to gay and lesbian AND single people, who are also being discriminated against. As an example, I, as a single person cannot leave my pension or my social security to anybody - I should be able to leave both of them to whomever I choose. This is not just a gay issue.

16. same thing in my town
although there were NO "No on 8" signs. A lot of people giving the thumbs down and jeering at those with the "Yes on 8" signs though.

I went to the Dem HQ to do some phone banking and the lady next to me had a few "No on 8" stickers. She said that those folks made her so mad that she had to get some to put on her car so that she could drive back by them. What I don't understand was that one guy had "Protect free speech" right below the "Yes on 8" slogan. I'm trying to figure out their rationale for that and all i can come up with is that they think that by banning gay marriage they are somehow protecting religious freedom and speech.

I don't have a lawn but i do have a bumpersticker on my car.

22. Some of the churches are handing out stacks.
That's why they're sprouting up like mushrooms after the rain (and often on public property.) They're free. :eyes:

Corner house. Constitutions are to define rights, not to deny them. (Hetero, and so's my husband.)

6. My (straight) sister pulled up a yes on 8 sign from public property at
the entrance to the housing development where she and my mother live. A neighbor saw her and there was a yelling match. The neighbor called the sheriff, who came to the house. My sister explained that it is illegal to place such signs on public property. The sheriffs agreed and understood, but asked her to put it back up any way! She did, to keep the peace (and I guess stay out of jail was the implication). I don't want my sister taking down signs in violation of the law, but in this case, it sounds like she was totally justified and got bullied some a^^hole neighbors and constitutionally ignorant deputies.

11. Just an FYI
some municipalities do allow the posting of signs, even political ones, on public property.

Two people have been arrested in Carlsbad for removing signs from public property.

You should check your local ordinances before considering removing signs to make sure that you're not breaking the law.

15. Thanks.
Unfortunately, you can't tell my sister anything. She does work for CalTrans, and says that her boss tells the crew to pull up any signs they find on CalTrans or state highway property, so I assume she knows at least somewhat what she is doing. However, whether she is right or not, the neighbors around there are as likely to be freepers as not. It's one of the reasons I left. I wish her luck and just hope she stays out of jail.

They will be getting some in tomorrow. I suppose that is good news. There are more No on 8 signs in my neighborhood but i am still shocked by some of the people I know that have Yes signs up.

10. No sign here, because I'm 2863 miles away, but I did donate!
I made a $50 donation a month and a half ago. To me, this isn't just a state issue. What happens in California can affect every other state. While Virginia might be one of the states with gay marriage bans on the books, that can be changed. However, it's less likely that it will be changed if California falls!

I only wish I could have donated more.

and I got in a debate with someone who had a yes on 8 bumper sticker while we were driving on the 134. :)

Edit to say... I'm going to put one up dammit! And an Obama one and a Yes on 2 one. Even though my neighborhood should vote for all of those.

18. with a few Apple stickers on it
Thank you Steve Jobs and Apple!

"No on Prop 8
October 24, 2008
Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8."

23. They aren't in the yard
They're in the front window. :)

When I ordered my No On 8 swag, yard signs were on back-order. I didn't want to wait, and I also figured window signs can't be stolen. (Of course, rocks can be employed...)

I've also got a bumper sticker in my truck's rear window, and I gave some extra badges I'd ordered to friends tonight.

25. I'm voting "no." Have been very
offended that groups in my burb are out in force in the AM along the main drag with pro 8 signs that include such ditties as "Yes on 8 = Freedom of Speech." WTF?

Kids from the local high school have countered with No on 8 rallies on busy street corners. It is a very contentious issue.

When I hear the "sacredness of marriage" argument I want to :puke:

My 15-year-old doesn't have one friend, not one, whose parents are married. Multiple divorces. Multiple step-parents. Kids bounced around from one house to the other on weekends.

Anyone who wants to give marriage a try should be able to. The benefits - as well as the drawbacks and pitfalls - should be open to all.

28. We have one
The yard signs have been hard to get or at least they were back ordered for a while. I have seen quite a few home made ones. A few people in Claremont put out white poster board with an eight in a circle with a big line through it beside a "Why are we even having this discussion?" sign.

29. I've got window signs
I made my own window signs before I got my No on 8 shipment last week. So now I have the following signs up:

"A vote yes is cruel, bigoted and UnAmerican!"

"Preaching hate from the pulpit is immoral!"

"Revoke tax exempt status from the Mormon church. They are breaking the law!"

"Equality is a human right!"

And of course the official No on 8 window sign. I'm sure my mormon neighbors across the street are nicely annoyed! I have a bumper sticker on my car too.

And I donated of course. I want to see Prop 8 go down in spectacular fashion.

A huge "THANK YOU" to out-of-staters who have become informed and have supported NO on this proposition in California. This is a civil rights issue and has huge ramifications for the rest of the country. :applause:
