http://www.attytood.com/2007/03/ksm_two_shoe_bombers_and_the_c_1.html#moreWhy did terrorist lowlife Khalid Sheikh Mohammed tell his American interrogators that there was a plot for shoe bombings of two airliners, when only one such try -- the failed attempt on a 2001 trans-Atlantic flight by Richard Reid -- is known about?
Here's what was reported in the transcript (PDF file), that his confession statement presented at his Guantanamo tribunal included this :
I was responsible for the Shoe Bomber Operation to down two American airplanes.
<snip>
Why? Because I still remembered this report, from the Canadian National Post of Aug. 27, 2004 (on Nexis, no longer online):
A captured al-Qaeda operative has told Canadian intelligence investigators that a Montreal man who trained in Afghanistan alongside the 9/11 hijackers was responsible for the crash of an American Airlines flight in New York three years ago.
<snip>
I want to be clear about one thing. I wrote this post because I think there's a significant chance that KSM is indeed trying to take credit for downing Flight 587 here, since the claim so closely dovetails the Canadian report of a second shoe bomber, plus the fact that both were "American" Airlines flights.
