She is the perfect poster child for the Republican Party. Just substitute the poster for the US. In their eyes, it is perfect.

1. OK, it is indeed pathetic.

But it's also a little depressing to see the angry comments posted about her, because about 99% of them seem to be calling her a "fat bitch" or a "fat whore."

Should people feel free to be repulsed by what she did and to say so? Sure. But why does it have to be with sexist, weight-ist pejoratives?

What if she were thin? Would that make what she did any better?

Edit: I should add, anti-gay pejoratives, too. Stuff like "Are you gonna turn prison gay?" and "They're gonna love you in the general population."

Sheesh, I thought we were supposed to be better than comments like that--and comments like "Man the harpoons" and "Who is going to want to f that?" and "B for BACKFAT" and "Typical republican/nazi woman- obese, ugly, stupid and from what I heard, literally REEKS of cat piss and period." That's the kind of garbage THEY say to US.

2. Sadly, it's human nature to focus on the non-ideal of people we don't like.

People who are overweight whom I like - are still beautiful but carrying a little extra weight.

People who are overweight whom I do NOT like - are FAT and pathetic.

and see how many of them sound human.

On the contrary. They give you the feeling that if those people ever ran into Ashley as a group, they'd grab her, hold her down and do something much, much worse to her than she claimed was done to her. Maybe carve "FAT UGLY LYING BITCH" into her face with a razor as part of it.

And that scares me a bit. I'd like to think that's not us.

And there's lots of use of the C-word in there, too.

And I am not analyzing DU's reaction at all, rather the reactions of the commenters on YouTube.

When I say "I would like to think 'we' are better than that," "we" refers to anyone who finds what she did reprehensible. If someone finds what she did reprehensible, but is so angry about it that one has to call her a fat ugly effing whore bitch with a smelly fat c-word, I don't see how that makes one a whole lot better than her. Although at least you're confining your nastiness to words rather than deeds that way.

There are a million ways to ridicule her epic fail without that. To me, the gold comment is quoting her: ""I used a straight edge with the razor tip ruler to get that nice clean edge and that nice clean line." Yeah, I'm sure she did!

And if it's going to be OK for all of us to "punish" anyone for what they did that disgusts us, just take a look at some of those scary videos of people at McCain-Palin rallies and think about how some of them might see fit to "punish" anyone who voted for Barack Obama.

"R" in Registration on the poster. The top part of the R looks like the "B" she carved in her face.
