I'm sad for the demise of "John McCain, the man, the myth"
Being from the hippie/Nam generation, I'd always disagreed with McCain's ideology -- but I respected him as a person of integrity, a hero.

The sleeze of this campaign, along with his lockstep support of Bush over the past few years, is something which I'd never have believed of "the old John McCain".

Tonight, MSNBC put yet another nail in the coffin of my image of "the old John McCain" -- showing him many years ago meeting with that Chilean butcher Pinochet, describing the meeting as "warm".

So I wonder, has "the old John McCain" sold out, or was he always just a toady underneath a hero's mask? Either way, I feel a little sad.

3. McShameless was always an Asshole.
He had a great PR going for himself, esp. after the Keating Scandal.

2. I am afraid you bought into the PR. PR is what makes many of these people. They know how important
it is to have an image and they go about sowing that image. With the advent of the media and electronically communications, we have come to a place in history where appearances is much more important than substance.

7. Ironically,
it is also the electronic media (the web) which is making it so easy to destroy someone's image and reputation.

9. He was always only myth, which is another word for Lie
When we are sold a myth, we are sold a lie

There was never any torture for him at the Hanoi Hilton

He sold out within the first 48 hours and did 22 propaganda videos for N Vietnam

And that was after he crashed 6 planes and blew up the USS Forrestal

As an atheist I long for the day when the myth, the lie of religion dies

Same with this punk

5. Why? He was always a fake.
Trying to prove himself to Dad and always fucking up.

He never was the hero he made himself out to be.

8. No hero with so much of an ounce of integrity
would retire to the "ready room" on a aircraft carrier to watch (on closed circut tv), his ship and shipmates burn, then jump on a plane to go on shore leave and leave his shipmates behind to care for the wounded and mourn the dead.

Like the rest of his life, his Navy career was just a sham.

I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.
