A brother's good-bye.
This morning we laid to rest Sgt. Peter Mares of the Army National Guard. He had served in the aftermath of Katrina and had more recently served in Iraq. He was 23. One of his brothers wrote the following:

Chances missed for last good byes.
Solace, for now on angel wings he flies.
Tears flow no more, and all pains cease.
Heart filled with hurt now at blessed peace.
With your path now lit, and purpose no longer amiss,
Feel the warmth of God's love, and taste His kiss.
Hold your head high and receive His grace,
Feel His arms and the strength of His embrace.
Your dirty wings and tarnished halo now washed by His light.
Your time has come to spread your wings, Pete, and take flight.

Go with God, little brother.

1. So goddamn sad.
We can't afford anymore Peter Mares shedding their blood for a war built on a foundation of lies, greed, and domestic politics. Change came to late for this young man, but it can't come soon enough for the rest of our troops stuck in this nightmare.

12. Thank you, but to clarify --
Sgt. Mares was the son of a friend. But I know his family welcomes all prayers. So, again, thank you on their behalf.
