Breaking: Death Threats, Hack Attempts 'Barrage' OH Sec. of State's Office
The website of the Ohio Secretary of State is being set to "static mode" following a recent series of "security breach" attempts, as well as suspicious packages and a number of death threats sent to the office, according to a press release issued late this afternoon. (Posted in full at end of this article.)

The threats against Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner's office come in the wake of a rash of recent burglaries and vandalism at ACORN offices in Massachusetts and Seattle, as well as death threats delivered to a number of their workers following much-hyped media reports of "voter fraud" by the community organization. The attacks against the group escalated following the Republican Presidential nominee John McCain's comments about ACORN "voter fraud" at a recent rally, and his extraordinary allegation that ACORN was "on the verge of maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history in this country, maybe destroying the fabric of democracy" at last week's Presidential debate.

Notably, there has been no actual evidence of any such "voter fraud" by ACORN, simply allegations by many on the right.

The recent threats against Brunner and her office follow on criticism from state Republicans, who have launched a number of legal suits against her during the final weeks leading up to this November's election...

1. Obama should use some of that 150 mil to help protect people there. Of course
that's what the local police should do but that may not be enough.

13. Death Threats?
Well I guess that if you can not win an election fairly then you have to resort to Jackbooted, Brown shirt, abusive style combat in order to win. Let's see I think I just barely remember learning something about this style of intimidation used by another national leader in history, what was his name ???????

3. The right wingers are really losing their shit.
Enough to make any sane person question their actions.

Is this what conservative, God-fearing, compassionate Republicans do? Yes, it is. And it IS a reflection on the entire party. If it were just a few people here and there, it would be one thing. But the party leaders, McSame and Pain, allow threats and insults to go unrepudiated. And their talking heads, mainly Rush Limpballs, is inciting this kind of behavior.

It's shameful. Which is why I take so little concern when a right winger complains. They have no room to talk. None at all.

4. I loves me some Brunner
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 07:10 AM by Botany
"Our focus is and has always been to protect the vote of every eligible Ohio voter from any
kind of fraud, be it voter registration fraud, illegal voting or vote suppression. This action
has been taken to detect and prosecute any illegal breach of our voting infrastructure to
maintain voter confidence," said Secretary Brunner.

With out control over the election and being stopped in their voter surppression
the right lashes out as their loss of power becomes more and more clear. And by
feeding the "mouth breathing Rush listeners" the lie about all the "vote fraud"
some feel that Jesus wants them to attack Brunner because that shows they love
America and are patriots.

I am proud to know Jenny Brunner .... part of an e-mail I got from her yesterday.

Thanks, Tom. The fight continues. snip
We'll see what happens. Fifteen days is a long time.
Jennifer

6. Domestic Terrorism. We need to declare The GOP to be a Terrorist Organization.
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 07:14 AM by IanDB1
Republicans had better start wearing uniforms if they don't want to be considered Enemy Combatants.

8. One would think that this would classify as domestic terrorism
All of the tires slashed in Fayetteville at an Obama rally, the dead black bear wrapped in Obama signs at WCU, and all of the other threats and incidents that have occurred over the past month would fit the very definition of domestic terrorism.

In a more just world, the Justice Department would come out forcefully against this type of behavior and classify them all as domestic terrorists if caught. Because that's what it is and McCain/Palin continue throwing fuel on the fire.

16. If terrorism is the use of violence and intimidation for political ends
then yeah, the shoe most definitely fits the Republican Brownshirt Squads and their attempts to disenfranchise and intimidate Democratic voters. The vandalism, the physical assaults, the envelopes of white powder and "suspicious" packages, the cyber-attacks--it's all terrorism.

they are stirring it up now.

The whole world is watching the meltdown as Americans turn on other Americans. It makes you understand why other countries fear our brand of Democracy.

19. Some good citizens, with long rifles (they can carry without permit?) should be standing guard.
If/when Obama wins, the nut cases are going to come crawling out of the woodwork. The Eric Rudolphs and Tim McVeighs will be stuffing themselves on hate filled lies.

21. WTF? Where is the FBI?
The article only says Ohio State Troopers are helping with the investigation. But death threats? C'mon--that is totally the FBI's jurisdiction. The FBI finding out who these domestic terrorists are woudl be the best way my tax revenue could be spent during this election cycle.
