Should I be upset about this?
In Oklahoma primaries, we can only vote according to party affiliation. So when I go to my polling place, I get signed in by one old guy and then the next old guy asks which ballot I need. I say Democrat and he loudly announces, "OH, A DEMOCRAT!" like it's some big surprise or something. And then every head in the place swivels to get a look at the commie pinko.

I feel a flash of annoyance but shake it off, go mark my ballot, run it through the optical scanner and exit the building, proud that I've done my part.

This has happened a number of times over the past six or eight years, but here in OKC I'm just a tiny blue fish in a red, red sea. I'm used to being odd man out, and never really gave it a whole lot of thought.

Until it came up in conversation with my husband last week. He's still pissed about it. He says it's voter intimidation and should be reported to the election board. I'm not thin-skinned enough to be intimated by it, so now I don't know what to think.

What do you think? Should I be upset about this? Is it even worth complaining about?

1. I hope you won't be upset by it, but I would report it to the board of elections.
It's wrong.

3. I'd report it to your County Board of Elections...
...you're likely not the ONLY one who has experienced this at your polling place.

6. I'd smile, if they grimmace back, I'd give them the finger and vote.
Fuck them.

7. Well, okay then
I guess I will see about filing a complaint. It feels kind of silly to do it so long after the fact, though.

8. As a poll worker in California
we are told to keep a voter's party as quiet as possible. During the primaries, one clerk has you sign in an must tell the next cleck which ballot is needed. But that communication should be done quietly. Any poll worker loudly announcing a party is totally out of line and the elections board should be informed immediately.
