I don't think I'm going to make it.
I think this campaign is going to end up being 1 week too long for me. It's driving me completly insane. I despise reds more than I ever thought I could ever despise anyone. Joe Lieberman's ugly face is driving me over the edge.

It certainly would explain the glowing feeling.

I'm sad to say the DUer Lerkfish will most likely not be making a cameo in this one like he did in Fallout 2...

Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 02:13 PM by YOY
You can encounter a number of Fallout Uberfans put into the game. They critique the game as they wander about and fight some clown. You can slaughter them wholesale if you like I think. DUer Lerkfish is the one called "Lerk".

The last thing I need to know right now is that Fallout 3 is coming. :-) I am about to cave and buy a WiiFit, and if I got Fallout 3 on top of that, the last bits of my writing productivity would be shot completely to hell.

51. Sorry, taterguy, I don't read the Lounge so missed your post.
You -none of us- can fix this mess on our own. It may not even be a fixable mess. You are on the correct side of things, small comfort that may be, and you sure aren't alone. The majority of Americans, and the very vast majority of the entire world, feel as you do, as I do, as most of us on DU do.

This is the truly difficult part of being a liberal; we have a heart, we have compassion, we hurt when others are hurting.

Thank God for that.

But it sure as fuck can hurt!

52. Let it Be would have sold a lot more copies if the vast majority of the world felt as I do
And how many people do you know that smoke in the middle of 90 mile bike rides?

The problem with blanket compassion is that it's not very helpful unless it's combined with genuine understanding.

I live in sw indiana and saw 14 mccain/palin signs. I found myself cursing or giving the owner's house a dirty look at almost every one. Actually, I wanted to get out of the car and pull each and every one out of the ground. However, on a more positive note, I did see one Obama sign nailed loud and proud some 20 ft. up on a street corner tree!

10. It's too bad you're all the way in Texas...
the weather here in SF is stunning..so if you were closer I'd say hey, let's go hang out by the water! But I would suggest doing that anyway, where you are. Get away from the tee vee, the 'puter, the paper, any source of news for a little bit. Spend some time in the trees or lake or desert...(not sure where in TX you are! :)

Also, get out and phone bank or canvass or if you can. Go to a swing state and canvass. I did Nevada recently and it was a great experience. Plus you can feel all proactive, less helpless.

It's been a long year and these last few weeks are making me insane too...(well, insane-er, I guess...LOL!)

But won't it rock on Novemeber 5th when we wake up with President Obama...(not literally, but it's nice to dream about that too!)

13. Thanks so much. Excellent advice. I have done some phoning and
canvassing and it's actually been more reassuring than not, believe it or not, being here in Texas.

I think I'll do that. I'll load up my little chihuahua and take her on an adventure this afternoon. After three days of rain and overcast here, it's bright, cool, and sunny. Good day for some fresh air.

22. TE, your OP resonated
so completely with me. Are you a baby boomer? We seem to feel the stress more acutely, perhaps because we recall Nixon, Reagan, the whole massive shift to the right that came in the seventies -- a shift we seemed helpless to avert. It's not just the past eight years, but the past 30-40.

My health is suffering, and I can't concentrate on my job. My 401(k)s are tanking, but I don't even worry about that; I am so entirely fixated on the upcoming election, the daily polls, the lies, the cheating... and the trashy, tacky idiot from Alaska who's living proof of H.L. Mencken's famous prediction.

I, too, like little day trips. Here's a suggestion for you that I've found helpful. You mentioned taking your little dog on a short trip this afternoon. Why not take a camera, too? You can photograph the dog in new places, the countryside, whatever you find interesting. Even if you don't own a camera, you can buy a disposable one cheaply. I've found it very theraputic, especially since I can look at the photos over and over, and remember a pleasant time.

God grant us all some peace -- soon.

40. Satbod Elder and Spookycat - A big DU welcome!
Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 07:03 PM by Texas Explorer
I'm not a Boomer, Satbod Elder, but I am just a year younger than the youngest Boomers. We're called Generation Jones =)! But I do certainly remember, as young as I was, Nixon and Watergate as mom was a housewife then and the Watergate hearings were on TV everyday so that it was quite easy for me, a news hound even then, to absorb some it. And Reagan, ugh! It has been a long road we've travelled since those days. I can't wait 'til we have total control of DC!

I think the most maddening part is watching the media distort, lie, and spin through the past 8 years. I was always a newshound and always trusted TV news. Now, it's just a constant source of disgust, disdain, disappointment, and anger. It's like the Twilight Zone in this country. I just want peace and properity. I want to see those days again when I used to breath in deep and think how great things were going and how good life was. It was during the Clinton years that I last felt that way.

Thanks for the wonderful suggestion for sharing time with my four-legged sweetie. I took her down by the Brazos River where she could go off-leash and run and explore. She sniffs EVERYTHING! I did have the camera but I'm about to move to Virginia and have packed away the cord that moves the pics from the camera to my computer. Her name is Kitty. Here is a pic of all 5lbs of her:

Ain't she adorable! =)

Well, I wish you the best in life and health, Satbod Elder, and looking forward to seeing you around the board and on November 5th after Obama wins!

11. Try to go outside your usual rounds of TV, internet, audio...
Just my own experience, but when I find I'm getting too crazy about politics, I try to re-discover something like pop music (there's a great music review program from Chicago Public Radio

http://soundopinions.com/

that's become a recent must-listen for me.)

You really have to take some time out now and then. It will make you nuts otherwise.

15. I just about went postal in the post office yesterday
A 'discussion' was going on about Obama trying to raise taxes on anyone who makes over $250,000 and this guy was defending Joe the Plumber going on and on about how anyone could make that amount, you could sell hot dogs and make $250,000 per year. I really thought we had the election in the bag and then I was jarred into the realization that Americans are idiots!

The thing I don't get about the Bush supporting nutjobs, who the hell do they expect to pay for their homeland security and needless unending wars? Bush has us in debt over 10 trillion....who is supposed to pay it? These rich bastards know how to keep themselves out of debt, they don't just run it up and pay the interest getting further into debt...but for some reason they think it is just dandy to run up the national debt and leave it to their children and grandchildren? Selfish bastards!

Or maybe Enchanted Rock? I bet there are some other spots you can head off to that are pleasant. Maybe even South Padre since the college crowd is gone. Go somewhere with little electricity, do some fishing, read a novel, join a coven.

I would love to do those things, but I have kids and have a really bad cold right now. But sometimes I get nervous about election day too.

36. Since the outcome is absolutely out of your hands
And whatever is going to happen is going to happen, you staying stressed or not doesn't make any difference now.

So choose to do whatever it takes to stop being stressed. Give yourself a break and take a holiday from getting your buttons pushed. Become a couch potato and just watch sports, or take your dog for long walks and play with it. Paint your house. Just be sure to do something that you feel you want to do.

The stress isn't going to stop on November 4. The pressure isn't going to go away. The Republicans aren't going to shut up and go away. FOX and Hannity and O'Reilly and Limbaugh will be gleefully criticizing every single move any Democrat makes.

Give yourself a chance to accept whatever fate brings our way. The fat lady will never stop singing when it comes to politics.
