Emanuel tells freshmen to avoid Stephen Colbert
By Jonathan E. Kaplan
March 15, 2007
Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), the Democratic Caucus chairman, has told new Democratic members of Congress to steer clear of Stephen Colbert, or at least his satirical Comedy Central program, “The Colbert Report.”

“He said don’t do it … it’s a risk and it’s probably safer not to do it,” said Rep. Steve Cohen. But the freshman lawmaker from Tennessee taped a segment that last week was featured in the 32nd installment of the “Better Know a District” series. Colbert asked Cohen whether he was a black woman. He isn’t.

1. Idiot!
Colbert is nothing but good ... if we can't laugh @ ourselves then why bother
getting out of bed in the morning?

2. Yup. I already saw freepers posting "Dems can't take Fox OR Colbert"
But this is the guy who wanted Harold Ford to replace Dean. Colbert is too subversive for the DLC types.

4. We understand Colbert
but we aren't the uninformed public who pays attention to sound bites during campaigns. The freshmen have to be very, very careful.

5. They should all be watching Colbert and Stewart.
They'd learn a lot more than they do from CNN and FOX.

6. If they are intelligent and have a sense of humor they should go on the
show. But, not every dem congressman is. I think it's a realistic warning. Have you noticed no repubs go on better know a district?
