Why is McCain's Keating 5 Scandal involvement not an issue?
McCain was called before the Senate's Ethics committee because of his involvement with Keating and the Savings and Loan scandal in the 80's. Why is this not being brought up? Also remember a fellow named Neil Bush was also involved. Yes, Neil Bush is George W's brother you never hear about.

3. What part of "they own the media" do you not understand?
With very few exceptions (Keith, Rachel) McCain/Palin scandals won't see the light of day.

4. It is an issue but they're ignoring it.
Weather Underground was late 60's to mid 70's and Obama did not participate in the group's activities.

So it's not only the date that makes Keating more relevant but the fact that McCain, as an adult and politician, was DIRECTLY INVOLVED in the Keating scandal.

I was pissed off when I read this paragraph on Media Matters this morning about the McCain double standard:

It isn't surprising that the conventional wisdom is that the news media have turned on Sen. John McCain. After all, decades of attacks from conservatives have conditioned reporters to believe that they are biased against Republicans -- even when there is scant evidence in the reporting to support such claims. And the McCain campaign has launched an all-out assault on the media, complaining relentlessly about the coverage its candidate has gotten.

It made me angry because we still use THEIR FRAMING. "Conditioned reporters to believe that they are biased against republicans"

I call BS. I doubt reporters believe they are biased, I think they are abused and beaten down. The republicans have abused reporters to the point that they don't dare say anything the republicans might not like because they know the republicans will just bludgeon them some more.

We should start framing the issue like this: "After all, decades of attacks from conservatives have conditioned reporters to go easy on republicans. " It's the truth.

(That's not counting the "reporters" who are purposefully biased in their reporting. )

5. And McSame was the son in law of a criminal who was quite possibly involved in the mob who blew up
an investigative reporter, who was defended by William Rehnquist.

7. Please more info! That said, Obama needs to get ON this. Calmly bring it up in the debate -
so EVERYONE hears it, and the media can't filter it out.

Obama put out an Internet ad at the beginning of the week, purportedly as a shot across the bow to McCain about bringing up Ayers. McCain and the media ran with the Ayers ball ALL WEEK - still going strong - yet Obama backed off Keating! WTF. Bring a gun, dammit!

8. Too Much Shit Flying...
The problem the Democrats face this year is the vast amount of things that they can campaign on...Iraq, the economy, health care. Inversely, the GOOP has little to go on...their game is to play a personality campaign and use the "character" issue to try to unite their dwindling base and suppress ours. They have a well-oiled PR machine that hammers the Ayers/Wright/Rezko crap via hate radio and surrogates virtually 24/7 and with little time to talk about much else. This loud noise machine, once named the "Mighty Wurlitzer" has so poisoned the political discourse that not only do their charges fall flat the more they scream, but so do counter attacks. People just don't want to hear any of this shit.

The Keating 5 is very relevant to what's going on now, but it's still something that happened 20 years ago...and many then really didn't understand what had happened. Poppy boooosh swept this mess under the rug quickly and the good ole boys in the Senate slapped Gramps hands but never had the balls to do much more. Also, this scandal, while incriminating Gramps also hits on 4 Democrats who also did favors for Keating...something the party hierarchy is sure not happy to have known.

In some ways, the relasing of the Keating video this week took some of the "sting" out of the amped up Ayers noise, but making too much noise takes you down into the mud with the GOOP and forces Obama to play their game. He's smart enough to know he doesn't need to...he's got all the right issues on his side. Yes, he's playing bigger...and I like to compare it to Jackie Robinson...ignoring the taunts from the racists in the crowd and just going and doing.

and other tenuous relationships.
