THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer has done an about face and withdrawn his request to obtain records on 302 people who registered and voted at the same time last week.

Fischer said he had "several complaints about the legitimacy of new voter registrations in Greene County."

However, he issued a statement today saying he now believes a "thorough check" by the Ohio secretary of state of new registrants' partial Social Security numbers and driver's license records "will allow the voiced concerns to my office be answered." He said he canceled his request to the Greene County Board of Elections.
