Gas here was at $3.24 when we went out and $2.79 when we came
home! The low price was at BP which is normally the last to get down to the lowest price. For the last couple days they have been leading the way down.

We are in Hot Springs, AR and I am just wondering what is going on? Is this just to manipulate the election? Is it "designed" to help the Economy not crater? Is consumption down really that much?

Your thoughts.......

1. The same thing happened in 2006
Just before the election. The timing looks very suspicious.

5. I couldn't believe when it went down 16 cents here in one day,
but at the same time I do not look on everything that happens as a giant conspiracy. Hey, maybe I am not paranoid enough to be a Democrat?

6. In parts of NC we can't get premium. Supposedly we have highest gas prices in the country.
and the gas map seems to confirm it.

8. Ours dropped from $3.99 to $3.47 in one day! In Asheville N.Carolina
Although many stations are still empty or very limited, price finally dropped at one closest to my house that had gas. Spouse asked same question, if it was to manipulate the election or just because demand has dropped so much with high price and economy tanking so badly.

9. I think consumption for the year is only down about 6-8%, last I read
My own theory on why the gas price is going down so fast -- other than the usual election dip -- is that there are probably a lot of speculators who find themselves in need of cash (due to other investments going south), and they are selling everything they can to dig their way out.

12. Could very well be.....thanks for the post.
Maybe there are several factors in play. One thing, for sure, I hope it does not help the Republicons. I think there are enough other problems that this is not as big as it could have been, though.

14. Oil needs to be nationalized...IMHO
The price of crude and gasoline have no obvious connection to actual supply and demand any more - it seems obvious to me that they have been manipulated by speculators for at least 5 years.

In 2006 the prices went DOWN all year to about 2.06 on election day and then headed right back up again.

Now they are falling again in the pre-election season (but from a much higher point) and no doubt will bottom out on election day.

There should be limits on the amount of futures shares any entity can own and how far out they go timewise and oil companies should be required to keep excess supply on hand and have excess production capacity just like we do for farmers so that there won't be any of this shortage crap every time there's a hurricane threat or some other incident occurs.

18. We all can expect gas prices to drop as in the 2006 elections, prices then dropped 7-10 cents weekly
remember, then they sky-rocketed right after the election which GOP lost.
